PERFECT RINGS VITALTOMDTOR Type Used by Inventor of Steam Engine Still Preferred, Dealer Says. From the very beginning of the do I velopment of internal combustion en gines designers have had endless trou hie with piston rings, is the opinion expressed by F. W. Dannerline. man ager of the Indiana Wheel and Rim Company. 40 W. North St. Despite untold experiments and endless Inventions the old idea of the hammered piston ring has proved the best of alt, he said. In speaking of this Mr. Dennerline said: "It is remarkable that with all the changes and development in the field of Internal combustion engines that in piston rings old James Watt, the Inventor of the steam engine, hit upon a fundamental idea that has survived through all the years since his day. The first hammered piston rings were used in tho Watt engine, and today hammered rings are used in the highest grade motor cars of America and Europe. "We have looked over the field carefully and have decided to carry a complete stock of Richmond ptston rings, electrically hammered by the very newest and moat perfect process We have found them thoroughly satis factory in every respect and we have had ro hesitancy in recommending them to our customers. "In the old days the hammered ring was a slow and tedious bit of work, but fifteen years ago Davie Robinson, a resident of Sweden, developed a machine for hammering rings for internal combustion engines and today practically every European car uses this type of ring as standard equip ment. “In America alone there are 150 ring manufacturers, and all sorts of : rings are being produced, some of them freakish in design. However, with all this competition it is noticeable that the hammered ring has more than held its own and is in use on the highest grade American automobiles. "The strength of the hammered ring and its adaptibility for service may be judged when it is stated that this is the type ring used on auxiliary air compressors of Diessel engines, and they are widely used on air compressors. where the demands are exceedingly hard to meet, for if a ring can stand the test of an air compressor you may rest assured it is a good ring "Many motors use an excessive amount of oil. ns disgusted motor car owners can testify, because the rings do not form a perfect seal between the piston and the cylinder wall. We know from experience, an experience we are willing to back with a rigid guarantee that the Richmond ring properly installed with the Richmond scrapee. oil grooved, rings, will stop oil pumping beyond a question. "Hammering a ring condenses tho metal and this condensation creates pressure. This pressure makes a perfect seal between piston and cylinder, ‘

thus increasing power and preventing waste of oil and gas. “It Is a tribute to the value of the Richmond ring that the product has j been approved by every automobile 1 manufacturer to whose engineering 1 department it has been submitted. “It has been the policy of the company from the first o adhere to a rea- | sonable price, with the result that the | motorist can get the rings at a price far below the exorbitant charges | which have at times been asked for | rings.” ' AUTO WHEELS NEED CARE Motorists Frequently Neglect Important Fart of t ar. Motorists gradually are -waking up to the fact that proper care of wheels and rims is one of the most necessary items in the upkeep of an automobile knd is as vital as the proper care of the motor itself, according to the manager of the Indiana Wheel and Rim Company, 40 W. North St. 'Automobiles under modern conditions have reached a point of develop ment where they are able to do just about anythjng," he said. “They will run without tires, fenders, hood, or body or top, but no one yet has been able to make one run under normal conditions successfully without wheels. "But in the past car owners have been shamefully neglectful of this part of their cars. However, finally, they are awakening to the importance of looking after the wheels and rims with some degree of intelligence. “Asa matter of fact an automobile Is just ns good as its wheels Many motorists fall to realize the vital importance of caring for them. These owners will pay every attention in the world to other parts, to the care of tires, condition of body, motor and paint, but neglect the wheels "They take these parts too much as a matter of course and forget that no part of their car is subjected to carder usage, greater strain, more pounding than are the wheels. They may become a source of endless trou bie and great expense if not given a lair share of the attention they de serve. They get out of line and < reate : unevenness of road surface that cut tires to pieces in a surprisingly short time. They get banged about, develop j all sorts of annoying squeaks and get: revenge on the motorist for failing'! to care for them properly by driving him almost wild, "Our company, the Indiana Wheel and Rim Company, was organiz'd for the express purpose of correcting, preventing and curing rim and wheel] troubles. Among the things our con- i earn has been able to do is to take the nerve racking-squeak out of rims, avoid : cutting of tube valve stems by Insertion of proper wedges in the rims, j In addition we are in a position to replace all broken and damaged parts. I think I am perfectly safe in saying that we carry in stock parts for practically every known make of j wheel, whether it be wood, wire or j disc. "We are making a specialty of our paint work, and on three days' notice can paint wheels any color desired. We also carry in stock rims and wheels for every make of car from 1912 down. The only Information we i require of a customer is the model of his car and the make and size of the rims. "The necessity of paying attention i to wheels and rims is becoming more j

generally accepted among automobile owners, and they realize that the old adage about a stitch In time saving nine, holds good in respect to wheels and rims with far more than usual force." KIT BOON TO MOTORISTS j Seal-Fast Repair Outfit Lure for Tire Troubles. Modern merchandising, to be sue cessful, must coinbtne two vita! elements, first a product which gives excellent value for the money ana second a selling plan of such force as ]to appeal to the buying public. This | is the opinion expressed by an offl clal of the Robert M. Bowes Company, 124 E. Ohio St., manufacturers and distributors of the well-known ; Seal-Fast Minuteman repair kit fori the repair of automobile, motorcycle! and bicycle tubes. "I feel sure we have given Indian j apolis tho honor of putting into ac j tual service one of the greatest and ' j most successful accessory merenan dising plans ever used.” he said. "From the minute this company was organized it has been our firm and unwavering Idea that any merenant with a deserving product that can be depended upon to do everything or a little more than is claimed for it, will have no trouble selling it If he will give demonstrations showing Just exactly what may be expected of the article In question "In accordance with this demonstration plan Bea!-Fast has been shown in practically every part of the country. Any motorist who ever had the sad misfortune to get stuck out of town, out of tubes, out of luck with a puncture and no repair kit, and most all of them have been at some i time or another, takes very kindly to the idea of purchasing a kit which j he has seen tested out under the most | | trying conditions in a demonstration ] ; at an accessory store "We have the utmost confidence in I our product, a confidence born of long experience and based on splendid re- ! suits obtained. Seal-Fast repairs punc ! tures and blowouts. It is easily and ! quickly applied It requires the use
j of no cement, heat, gasoline or cumbersome equipment. It is a well rec"'ognized fact that in Seal-Fast disadvantages of other means of quick repair are done away with. Seal Fast repairs are applied by the use of our solvent and rubber-welding compound, which partially devulcanizes the tube and welds the repair into an integral part of the tube. “It is ideal for roadside repairs, and that is the first prime reason most motorists buy a kit. Being extremely * economical and saving in time It has proved its worth and become more than usually popular. I feel safe in saying It is one of the fastest and most reliable tube repairs in existence. "Our faith is so great that we have made our famous 'money back guar antee,’ and the fact that we art* not called upon to refund purchasers their money is sure proof that our product has proved satisfactory to the motoring public In every respect.

'SIMONIZ SAVES ORIGINAL PUNT j Product Preserves High Finish in Automobile Bodies. More and more motorists are learn ing that the original beautiful lustei and finish of the automobile can be preserved in all its pristine beauty if only tho proper steps are taken to ac j complish this end, according to F. J : Simons, local agent for "Simoniz.” “In the old days it was taken for I granted that high finish on motor j cars could not be maintained for any great length of time,” Mr. Simons said. "Therefore, little effort was made to save it. The cars were washed with any kind of soap, many of them soaps that literally ate the paint off the cars and destroyed the high finish in disastrously short time. Then came an era when efforts were made to develop some sort of material which could be depended upon to protect the paint. Instead of destroying it. “Many of these efforts resulted in failure, and I believe I am safe In saying that the real climax was reached when Simoniz was Invented. So great has been its success that today it is used by more than 2,000,000 motorists and it has gained the reputation among satisfied users of being vastly superior for restoring the lus ter and protecting the finish to any other product. "It. can be depended upon to protect the finish in any kind of weather, under any kind of conditions. It provides a hard, dry and dustproof finish. One of the remarkable features is that on old cars it saves many a painting Job and brings the lustre the owner thought long gone. "We have found that many of the best painters use and recommend Simoniz It makes their work last
longer and of course this results In a satisfied customer. In using Simoniz care should he taken to follow and observe the directions. "New or repainted cars should be Simonized Immediately to retain original finish Where Simoniz Kleener will remove all blemishes. spots, or stains from fine paint or enamel and will prepare perfectly the surface for the final application of Simoniz itself. Our products do not contain acids or materials injurious to the finest finish "One of the best features is that a Simonized car needs no washing. Mud splashes, dust or rain spots can be Wiped off with a cloth. In Indianapolis we maintain two authorized service stations where motorists may obtain the finest service for this product. Our customers have come to realize that Simoniz ie Just as l essential to the finish of the car as oil i ie to the motor."
