Eighteenth Amendment Has Wrought. Suicide, murder and delirium tremens are on the decline since prohibition went into effect, according to Dr. Richard Poole, superintendent of the city hospital and for several years Marion County coroner. “Formerly, when a man got drunk, either he was peacefully so and submitted to arrest gracefully, or he achieved the stage known as a weeping jag, decided the world was all wrong, went out to the river and jumped in,” the doctor says. “Now, they take a couple of drinks of white mule or denatured alcohol, and do they feel like suicide?’’ “They do not. “They feel like going out and raising heck and starting a fight with firi-t policeman they meet. Asa re™ suit they land in police court instead of the coroner’s office.”
