NEW PLAN PROVES POPULAR Plumbing Installed on Payments Over Long Period of Time. The ordinance requiring the removal of all outside open vaults in the city, about 50,000 in number, recently passed by the city council, has been the cause of great interest in a novel plan whereby modem plumbing may be paid for on the instalment plan, according to Otto L. Buschmann, vice president of the firm of August Buschmann & Sons. “This year all open vaults within the mile sqhare must be abolished,” Mr. Buschmann said.*’’ and the entire number of \>o,ooo will be removed within a few years under the provision of the ordinance. This will mean that property owners will be forced to make a big expenditure of money for the installation of modern plumbing.

By so doing they save themselves the trouble of raising a large lump sum of money, they make pay-

ments in a convenient form and at the same time eradicate the danger of speadlng the much dreaded disease, typhoid fever. “By our plan the home owner calls at our store, selects his own fixtures, and then gives the contract for the work tp any reliable, responsible plumber in Indianapolis. When the work is completed the property owner pays the plumber one-fifth of the contract price and the balance la distributed over ten monthly op fifty weekly payments as the property owner chooses. "An astonishingly large number of persons have availed themselves of the plan. Its convenience and common sense are beyond argument and ; it has proved its value to hundreds of householders who have taken advantage of It. More and more people as I a whole are beginning to realise that modern, sanitatry, well installed plumbing is not a luxury, hut an absolute necessity. Homes are made j more convenient to live In by its use I and at the same time the family and | the neighborhood aro protected against ! the spread of disease.” SODA STANDS NOW SANITARY Marked Improvement Made in Fountain Construction In Recent Years. Ideas of modern sanitation move forward with rapid strides these days, and as a result things that were generally accepted In universal practice only a few years ago are barred today. In no line of business has this | tendency toward cleanliness and j health made itself felt more than in j soda fountains, according to J. R. ] Sentney, 222 S. Meridian St., I6cal distributor for Walrus fountains and various kinds of sanitary soda founI tain equipment. "The public now demands that drug j stores and confectionery stores put In the most up-to-date equipment, and no store could hope to remain in business with old-fashioned, obsolete, leaky, dirty, fountains that were so common only a few years ago,” Mr. Sentney said. “It has long been recognized that if the public wants a thing and makes its demand felt It will get It. Less than a generation ago the public knew of no soda fountain equipment other that the ornate, crude, unsatisfactory fountains of that period, and the equipment would be a joke from modern standards. These old fountains were dirty for the very simple reason that they were the only kind available. Asa matter of fact, they fre-

quently constituted a menace of thb~ public health. "Then came the period of development resulting In the design of the Walrus fountain, which I believe Is the only really leak-proof fountain on the market. It has many marked improvements over other type fountains. Just an‘example of this Is the fact that the plumbing is connected when the fountain Is delivered and it is unnecessary to hire a plumber who may be unfamiliar with fountain installation and who may do the work in bad way, which results in leaks and unsatisfactory results. This not only saves the purchaser money but saves a lot of time as well. “Another effective feature of the Walrus is the one-piece drain board, making it Impossible for dirt to collect in cracks, as there are no cracks. 1 The board, like a cord tire, Is nuilt layer upon layer and the layers are cemented together so as to make them leak-proof In every way. “The Walrus boasts of 50 per cent more refrigeration than usually is found and a minimum of ice is required to keep it cold. Sliding doors far more convenient than the old style are used. This does away with the old method of replacing a lid i every time a dipper of Ice cream la tßken out, a time-wasting process. “Sanitary ideas have made rapid strides in recent years, and I have found that the demand for paper aprons, paper towels, paper napkins and paper cups have increased at a tremendous and astounding rate. BAD SPRINGS CAUSE TROUBLE Motorists Fail to Realize Importance of Proper Care, Dealer Says. Few automobile owners realize the Importance of proper care of springs and as a result they frequently get i into are forced to bear expense that easily would have been j avoidable with proper care at the [ right time, is the opinion expressed J by William' J. Ashley, president of the Indianapolis Auto Springs Company, 820 W. Washington St. ’One of the great troubles with springs is that the car owner fails to realise the relation of his springs to the rest of his car. If a spring is weak, lop sided or out of line, he is inclined to go ahead and use it Just as it is, thinking that It makes no particular difference. *ln this he Is utterly wrong. As a matter of fact the great damage

done by bad springs is far from being to the springs alone. For a weakness here affects In all probability the alignment of the motor, the balance of the machine and makes its evil effects felt in dozens of ways. Many times the never does realize that the ultimate cause of his trouble waa with a bad spring. “Our company, the Indianapolis Auto Spring Company, was organized expressly for the purpose of giving careful and scientific attention to spring troubles of all sorts, and they are numerous and varied. We maintain a modern, up-to-date'service station and employ only expert mechanics for the work. This work is of a peculiar character and necessitates the use of men especially skilled and especially adapted "for it. "We are called upon every day to retemper springs and replace broken or unsatisfactory leaves. In fact we are prepared to do all kinds of work on all makes of springs, regardless of their type or the year of their manufacture. i "Not only do we carry in stock a large stock of new springs for reI placement purposes, but we are prepared to duplicate any spring that Is brought to us. We frequently are called upon to manufacture special' springs for particular uses. “But there is one thing we do not do. and that is to weld springs. We | have been in business a long time and i we know from experience that it is J impossible to weld spring steel with | any degree of satisfaction and so we have made it a rule to do nothing of this kind. "Our success and the fact that, our clientele has steadily grown is proof that the motoring public has been sat- ! isfied thoroughly with our work | our products.” Builds Own Casket LONDON, Ontario, Cahada—Yleld- ; ing to the pleadings of his family, C. iE.
