FEDERAL TROOPS WILL OE USED TO PREVENT RIOTS Trains May Be Operated Under Protection of National Arms. 'NO WAITING ON STATES’ Weeks Says Violence and Mail Tie-ups Must Be Avoided. By ROBERT J. BEXDER Vnited Xetci Staff Correspondent. WASHINGTON. July 14.—Operation of trains under protection of Federal troops has become a definite possibility In the wake of further suspensions and reported violence in areas seriously affected by the shopmen's strike. “We are not going to wait long for States to act.” Weeks said in explaining the Government policy. “We are not going to allow violence which will j result In the abusing of many pe. sons, nor will we allow interference with the transportation of mails and the movement of Interstate commerce." Weeks’ announcement came after receipt by the department Thursday of formal appeals from C. E. Schaflf, Feditral receiver for the Missouri, United States Marshal Frank T. at Detroit, who had Just completed In inspection trip In a trouble center at Saginaw. Mich. NEGROES QUIT; REFUSE TO DO STRIKERS’ WORK Thirty Maintenance of Way Men on Big Four Walk Out. Thirty negroes in the maintenance of way department of the Big Four, stationed at Beech Grove, have walked out because they were asked to do the work of striking machinists. Joseph Dutton, general chairman of Big Four maintenance of way men. said today. They are not members of the union, but are covered by the maintenance of way agreement, he said. Several men in the bridge and building department of the Big Four also have walked out because they were asked to do the strikers’ work, he claimed. There is no general walk-out nor immediate prospect of one, however, he said. Wives of strikers and railroad shopmen who stayed on the Job have had several hair-pulling matches in Beech w&lrove. Dutton, who lives in the reported several men who did not strike were sent to Mattoon, 111., and other points by the Big Four from Beech Grove and strikers’ wives have twitted their spouses about it, starting the trouble, Dutton 6aid. Adjt. Gen. Harry B. Smith went to Lafayette to investigate the situation In Monon shops. Road officials are understood to have reported groceries will not deliver to men replacing strikers. Strikers reported Big Four freight trains were badly delayed for want of motive power, but the office of the superintendent of motive povter said reports there were to the contrary. The general office of the Pennsylvania said more freight was handled yesterday than in six weeks without delay. Beard Suggests Another Kind of Wirelessing By day BEinn. Xattona 1 Scout Commissioner. Tou fellows with wireless outfits needn't feel so superior and tell dad that you can have more fun being a boy now than he could when he twas a boy. Your dad had a “wireless” way of sending messages, too. Most all the boys did. And j they used to send the messages surprisingly long distances. It is possible to send one clear from KenBEARD. tucky to New Orleans with a bottle “wireless.” Perhaps it might take nearly a year, but It may get there just the Bame. by way of the Ohio ! I BOTTLB River and the Mississippi River, if the message travels in a bottle. Try it. Collect a lot of bottles and find tight fitting corks for them. Then write all kinds of messages and put tlem in the bottles, with your names ad addresses on the messages and ths request to “The Finder” that they please communicate with the writer

Pola Negri Coming to U: S. to Play In Motion Pictures ■ By WALTER D. EICKMAX. Pola Negri has decided to come to this country for the purpose of making a special picture. > ( This became known today on the return of Jesse I* Lasky, first vice president of the Famous Players-Lasky Corporation, from visiting European film centers. * Negri so far has appeared In this country in foreign-made picture* imported to the United States. “Passion” Is considered the best of her foreign-made pictures. ) When “Passion" was presented in this country for the first time there was some heated argument regarding the “foreign invasion." Since then several other of her pictures have been exhibited in this country with * more or less success. f She will arrive in New York next month. Lasky announces Miss Negri will be the first of a number of European players to be brought here “to increase the international appeal of American pictures.” I Mr. Lasky has also established scenario bureaus in London, Paris and Madrid.
Sounds Taps for Jazz Larry H. Gomerllnger (upper), and i Emil Seidel (lower), who as teachers j of music and as entertainersr have discovered that noisy jazz music is “dead” in Indianapolis, and that popular music expressed in a novelty way is now the great desire of the people. by mail and let them know how far the message traveled. Liberate all the bottles on the river and wait to receive the replies from those messages if it takes all summer long. Some may reach Cairo, Louisville, or well down the Mississippi and maybe one will reach New Orleans and you will hear from it a year later. Then there is another "wireless'' method, of sending messages. We used to make parachutes of tissue paper and string. We would wrap the message around a pebble so as to weight down the strings, and then we would get up some high place and throw the parachute off. To be sure these messages never carried as far as the bottle messages did, but they got a surprisingly long distance. Tomorrow Dan Beard In Ills last article tells you how to make a Lin--1 coin Rail. How I Got Rid of Burning Feet And Pains from Corns and Bunions Without Soaking, Powders, Plasters, Etc., After Suffering Indescribable Foot Misery for 20 Years. Prof. F. T. Mclntyre, well known world tourist and lecturer, says: "For years I was compelled to wear shoes two sizes too large, to be able to walk with any comfort at all. I tried soaking my feet in medicated baths, powders, plasters and foot-treatmentf'gulore, but the burning callouses and soreness refused to go, while the pains from corns and bunions continued to torture both mind and body, which upset my entire nervous system. One day, very fortunately, I met a lady from Egypt who gave me a little box of Gypsy Foot R.elief, which she said was a secret from the desert. After using it a short time, the awful burning stopped, the callouses came off In cbnnks, leaving the skin of my feet clean and smooth, while the pains from corns and bnnions seemed to disappear as If by magic. From that time, 1 said a joyful goodbye to over SO years of indescribable foot misery. 1 would not take a hundred thousand dollars to again go through those years ofagony. Now I feel liketellingevery footsufferertoget a box of the wonderful Gypsy Foot Relief.” Note.—Gypsy Foot Relief, referred to by Mr. Mclntyre, may be applied in a minute, without fuss or bother. Sure, quick relief comes three minutes later, or the makers give back the small amount you pay.
