Ind., July 10.— Three persons were killed crossing interurban tracks of the Interstate Public Service Company here yesterday. Mrs. Hildeon Freudenberger and her 10-year-old granddaughter. Elizabeth Davis, were killed instantly. Parker Carver, 18, of New Albany died from his injuries. The motorman said he sounded his signal in time for the automobile to have stopped. Roads Feel Finch Railroads, feeling the pinch of equipment shortage due to lack of repairs since the strike began, made their greatest effort today to operate shops with strike breakers. Thousands of imported workers, protected by armed guards, began work in shops of the country. DRY LAW CASES TAKE MOST OF COURTS TIM? Marion County Court’s Session Devoted Largely to Hearing Volsteadian Grief. SENTENCES GIVEN MANY Automobile Stealing Second In Number of Offenses—Offenders Sent to State Farm. More dry law violation cases were tried in Criminal Court during the January term ending June 30, than any other class. Reports compiled by Judge .James A. Collins show ninety-four cases of this nature were acted upon. Automobile stealing was next with fifty-two. A total of 665 cases was filed during N term. Twenty blind tiger defendants were committed to institutions, two were found guilty by juries, eight were fined, thirty were found not guilty, thirty-two appeals dismissed. Judgment was withheld in one case. Vehicle Takers Many Thirty defendants to vehicle taking charges were found guilty and sentenced to State institutions, nine were j discharged, five were fined for unJ lawful possession of a motor and five charges were dismissed motion of the State. More defendants were committed to the State Farm than to any other Institution, eighty-eight having been sent there, fifty-nine to the Reformaton’, forty to the State Prison, thirtythree to jail and four to the Women’s Prison. Sixty-one persons were fined amd ten bonds were forfeited. Numerous Discharges Made Cases against 118 defendants were nolled by the State and 144 defendants were discharged by the court. Judgment and sentence was withheld In forty-three instances and sentence was suspended in thirty-seven cases. The number of appeals from city court dismissed was seventy-one. Two changes of venue were granted, suspension was set aside in two cases and the defendant was sent to tffae Reformatory.
