OUSTS97CASES lAction Against Criminal Court Defendants Awaiting Trial Halted by Prosecutor. Ninety-seven charges against defendants in Criminal Court will be nolled by the State, William P. Evans, prosecuting attorney, announced today. The majority of the defendants have been convicted on other charges or their cases disposed of. In the list are: Edward (Big Ed) Stevens and Arthur Welling, alleged safe-cracker; Howard Cerf, now serv ing a life sentence in the State Prison for murder; William S. Frye, local transfer man, against whom seventeen charges of failure to display number plates on his trucks are placed; George W. Miller, Clint Shaw and Glenn Stout, serving terms for robbing the Beech Grove State Bank; Thomas McKinney, former motorcycle policeman, implicated in the Beech Grove robbery" Richard V. Sipe, defrauding county clerk, now at the State Prison; George Lang, John Kranzer and William Thompson, auto bandits, who terrorized motorists on Madison road some time ago.; Naomi Cochrane and James Knight, con victed of embezzlement from a local bank. Reports Purse Stolen Walter M. Place of Newport today .reported to the police he was robbed ■if his purse, containing lodge receipts, $26 in cash and a check for SBO.

Recover Stolen Car A Joy rider took an automobile belonging to L. A. Wilson, 81 N. Warman Ave., from New Jersey and Michigan Sts. last night. Sergeant Helm saw the man in the stolen car at Indiana Ave. and Douglas St. at 1:30 a. m., and called police headquarters. The emergency squad found the car deserted near Riverside Park.
