KILLS GRIZZLY IN FIGHT Veteran Trapper Partly Devoured By Animal He Caught. LIVINGSTON. Mont.. June 27. Yellowstone Park rangers are trailing a huge grizzly bear that recently killed and partly devoured Joseph Duret, GO, an old-time Montana trapper. Duret's body was found on Slough Creek, near the park, with an arm and a leg partly chewed off. Signs indicated tho bear had been caught in one of Duret’s traps, but had broken loose when the trapper came by on b’-s rounds. "Horace M. Albright, superintendent of the park, said there were evidences of a terrific battle, and a rifle clawed and chewed, was found near the broken trap. One shot had been fired from the rifle and a bloody trail showed that the man had crept a mile and a half after receiving his Injuries. Poets Get Excited. LONDON. HEIR OF TIGER LABORS IN AMERICAN COAL YARD Grandson of Great French Statesman Too Proud to Ask for Aid, SAXONVILLB, Mass., June 27.—A few weeks ago, a shabbily dressed youth strolled Into Saxonville, Mass. He was ragged and emaciated. Two days later he was In a hospital with pneumonia. No one knew the young man or whence he came. He was handsome and appeared to be well educated. But all efforts to identify him were unavailing, and he would not talk. His face showed signs of depression and worry. His cheeks were hollow, and his lips drooping. His hands were blistered and sore. • After his recovery became a certainty, one day T. B. Quigly called at the hospital to visit a friend. He noticed the youth peering out of a window, and recognized him. And then Georges Frederique Gatineau, a grandson of the former Premier Clemenceau, became a guest at the Quigly home. Three years ago Gatineau waa heir to the "Tiger's” estate and the pet of Paris. After his return from the trenches, life for him became a merry round of wild night parties and beautiful women. He was wealthy. He was the leader of a small coterie of Paris revellers who had the fashionable world of Europe gasping for breath. Spends Fortune In One Year With an exiled Russian Prince and two famous stage beauties, Georges spent his entire fortune In less than a year. Then came the crash. Grandfather Clemenceau had long before railed a halt to his heir’s fast life. But the youth liked the primrose path and refused to heed the warnings. "Good old chap, grandpop, but slightly behind the times,” Georges informed his friends. He had an independent income from his cotton business and blithely continued to slap red paint on Paris. Then the bottom dropped from under the cotton market, and Georges found himself f.at broke. True to family pride, Gatineau has never been known to ask any one for aid. So he sought work on the Brest and Havre wharfs. He finally obtained a Job as a stoker on an Atlantic liner. From then on, nothing more was board of him by his friends. He made three trips across the ocean, but the fourth was too much for him. The result was a breakdown, and then his severe illness. Gets Job In Coal Yard Georges was game for any Job c'Hild get after be left the For a while he wets a guest Quiglys, but his pride before long compelled him to leave. After three weeks, Georges obtained a job in a Saxonville coal yard. His pay waa $4 a day. ‘ At one time, he was his grandfather's secretary and chief assistant. When doctors would not pass him for military service he enlisted as a "poilu" and served twenty-two months on the French front. He is a graduate of a Paris university and speaks four languages. It was in Saxonville that Clemenceau found his American wife In 1870. Gatineau says that is one reason he chose to go to the Massachusetts village.
