Present British Policy Is Hard to Understand

BY THE LATE FIELD MARSHAL SIR HENRY WILSON. (Copyright, By United Press.) (By Special Arrangement With The "London Sunday Illustrated.”) (Reproduction Forbidden.) LONDON, June 26.—1 t s extremely difficult t or any one- to understand the policy and aims ot the present government. In botih home and foreign affairs, It seem* as though it Is the intention 'to sunrender to our enemies in everything on which the existence of the British empire depends. On Nov. 11, 1918, the British empire was the most powerful the world ever had seen. Every man, woman and child in it was proud to belong to it. Today one part of the empire—the United Kingdom, in faat—has been surrendered to murderers and revolutionaries, and other great parts are treatening to break away.

The government's policy of surrender to and placation of enemies has done much to encourage the revolutionaries to weaken British authority in India. It is responsible for the frightful state of affairs in Ireland, which is rapidly degenerating into the same condition of anarchy and economic ruin as Russia. To placate the rebels, the government grossly has betrayed the loyalists and all who trusted the government's promises. Adding to our difficulties, the prime minister has estranged France by negotiations with the soviet government. To conclude, the government Is cooperating with the enemies of the kingdom. Therefore, conservatives who stand by their principles can have no relations with the present government. To have relations with it would imply that they were as indifferent to principle as is the Government.
