UPTODADSTO TEACH BOYS TO FOLLOW CHRIST Rader Says They Must Get on the Job and Stay There. THAT IS GOD’S WILL’ BV FAl'I, BABER, Ca<!le Tabrroarle Evangelist. Where’s datl ? Every crime In America points the finger of failure to a dad who flunked on the job. The crime wave will never stop until the finger of exposure points to the pussy-footing dad behind the bushes, makes him come out, get on the job, and stay there, until the boy he brought into the world is hitting on all Bix. • The policemen are doing the best they can, even to facing death, in handling other men’s failures. Our school teachers are seeking every scheme, through research, experiment and conference to substitute for the dad’s lack at home, but God never recognizes a substitute, while the original is alive. God ordained that a father should sit at the whtx in th.s boy business. Before God it is dad who guides, it is uad who throws on the brakes, dad who shifts those young gears, and dad who points out the roads in the ’ blue book.” What we need is not more boy organizations, not better police systems, but big dad conventions all over America on the boy business. God guarantees success In rearing a boy. God says, "Train up a child in the way he should go, not the way he wants to go, and when he Is mature, he will not depart from it.” Under a shade tree in the front yard of one of the greatest hotels in the world I sat and talked with Its builder and wner. 1 had two letters of introduction to him. I used neither. I met bira as ruan to tnan. I had been taken over his hotel from top to bottom by his manager. I bad been a guest for three days. New I was face to face with the man who dreamed it nil and then made his dream come true to the tune of a few millions. I told him I had thoroughly examined his dream and was now greatly interested in the dreamer. Before he could answer, I asked him a question that made the color come to his faee. "Was it your father, mother, your grandfather or grandmother who were Christians?” “Why ask?’’ he Inquired. "I saw it everywhere in your dream here. You cither had pareuts or grandparents who stretched your soul and made it fit to dream such a dream of comfort for others.” He swallowed the statement without salt and said earnestly. "Mr. Rader, you're interested in boys, I hear.” "Yes.” I replied, “desperately interested, and m- Interest always starts with their father, sinee thc-ir life started there.” “1 can’t get my boy to see things big. I can’t get my vision to him. A girl, a car. spending money seems to be his limit of vision. Who will carry on when I am gone?” "Listen.” I said, holding a lane) of his coat and looking straight Into his eyes. "lid you ever give him the vision of God. of Jesus Christ, which your par i cuts gave you? Have you set up your i home with Jesqs Christ and the Bible at the cento” to fortify him against the temptation waves of our time? Have you let him see God iu Christ Jesus, as your parents revealed Him to you to

stretch your soul for big vision, for big, noble action, for others? He dropped his eyes. Say, dads In Indianapolis, are you dropping your eyes here ? Let’s put the blame back where It belongs. ARGUMENTS ON CARFARE BOOST ARE EXPECTED Reports of Subcommittees on Street Car Situation to Be Made Today. Reports of sub-committees which in'estlgated the books of the Indianapolis Street Railway Company and traction conditions in other cities, lit which an increase in fare is one of the principal recommendations for the salvation of the local utility, were to bo laid before .Mayor Shank’s citizens’ committee on transportation at the city hall at 2 o’clock this afternoon. The committee comprises about forty represeuatives of business and civic clubs. The reports are expected to precipitate vigorous arguments. Mayor Shank has expressed the opinion to those close to h.w that he believes a higher fare is the only thing that will solve to traction company’s financial problem. The committee was organized by the mayor two mouths ago after officials of the utility had told him service will be impaired if the financial status Is not improved. Conclusions drawn by Mr. Harvey, besides a raise in basic fare, briefly were as follows: 1. Owl car service from 1 to 4:30 a. m. loses from sl,Olio to J2.00t) a month. Recommended owl fare be increased from 5 to ltl cents. Interurban companies ought to Join with the street car company in a petition to the public service commission to increase amount paid the local company f<>r use of its tracks. 3. Freight terminal facilities should be Improved and suggestion is made the public service commission say what they should be and whether interurban companies or shippers pay the cost. 4. Interurban fares inside city limits should be increased to 10 cents, so passengers would lie driven to ride city cars,: thereby increasing earnings of the local; company. •j. 1 ntcrborotigh bus line should be rog- i ulated by public service commission so - :s to reduce business they take trom street oar company. C. Street car company should be re-' lieved nt original cost of paving between tracks, but should be required to mam tain such pavement. Property owners, should pay original cost. .7. As rapidly as possible street ear com-, p.my should arrange to discontinue its West Washington street power house and purchase power Would be necessary for company to establish substation if this were done. .s. Company should set aside a "proper portion” of its income to cover depreciation. Street railway officials were pleased with the reports. INDIANA DAILY TIMES
only a few years ago there was hardly a house north of 38th street, and many of you can remember when there was little north of 16th street but cornfields. There were knockers in those days just as there arc today. They said the city would not grow and refused to buy. But the shrewd far-seeing ones who believed in Indianapolis and the wonderful future before it, invested heavily and realized large profits, many of them doubling and trippling their money several times. The same, if not greater, opportunities are offered you today. Indianapolis is growing faster now than at any time in its history. Many of our finest homes are now north of the River and town lots are being plaited several squares north of 90th street. Here is a wonderful opportunity for you. Seize it before it is too late.
