PINCHOFS MAIL HELD UP AND THROWN AWAY Postoffice Delinquency Referred to Department at Capital for Investigation. Special to Indiana Dally Times and Philadelphia Public Ledger. PHILADELPHIA, Pa . May 25—Thousands of letters sent out before the primary elections by the Plnchot campaign headquarters were held up In postal transit in a number of outlying districts of the State, according to word received by the Pirn-hot organisation. Mall sacks containing these letters are said to have been delayed so that they reached their destination within the last few days, after their usefulness had passed. Evidence stows that many of the letters were thrown away aud no attempt was made to deliver them. From May S to May 12, the Flnohot campaign committee sent out two and a half million letters containing cards advising citizens of the State as to the method of marking the ballot for Gifford Plnchot as Republican nominee for Governor of Pennsylvania. The letters were sent by first class mail from Philadelphia Complaints of this wholesale delay of mall for political purposes have been turned into the postal authorities and the matter is being taken up both here and in Washington. In several cases Plnchot leaders In Alleghany, Schuylkill and Washington counties received their letters on schedule time but the Plnchot followers never received the communication.
