STEEL LABOR SUBJECT FOR DINNER TALKS President’s Session With Leaders Surrounded by Cloak of Mystery. ARE PUZZLED Special to Indiana Pally Times and Philadelphia Public Ledger. WASHINGTON, May IS.—President Hardin? has Invited the heads of the steel Industry of the United States to dinner at the White House tonight anil to a subsequent conference on conditions In the industry. Aithongh the exact trend of the discnsslon has not been disclosed at the White House. It Is understood that the ways and means for the abolition of the twelve-hour day In the Industry will be discussed and proposals for a more general observance of the eight-hour day will be laid before the steel men. Details of the conference were refused at the White House and elaborate pains were taken to surround the meeting with an air of mystery. Mere knowledge of the fact that the steel men had been Invited was obtained from relnotant White House officials only when meager information regarding the dinner leaked out. SECRFCY ABOrT BCBJECT MATTER. The secrecy maintained regarding the affair tended generaly to confirm the suggestion that the labor situation In the steel mills was the main reason for Mr. Harding’s Invitation to the steel mill heads. Those familiar with the situation were led immediately to the belief that the subjects to be discussed involved more than routine phases of the steel Industry, such, for example, as its relationship to railroad rates. Nor was It clear that the President expecte dto discuss with the steel men the proposer* merger of the six big independent steel companies which is expected to follow kthe recent combination of the Bethlehem f Steel Company and the T.aekawanna Steel Company. The fact that Invitations have been extended to Judge Elbert H. Gary, chairman of the board of the United states Steel Corporation, and James A. Farrell, president of that corporation, is regarded as excellent indication the merger question, if it is dismissed at a!, will not constitute the main topic. Since President Harding already has announced that he will dine a group of railroad executives Saturday night, osten-

NOT CONNECTED WITH COAL STRIKE. It was said officially also that the conference was in no way connected with the coal situation. The President and his advisers have been studying the steel Industry, with the growing conviction that a certain amount of Government Interest or suggestion regarding some of its methods would not be amiss. “The Administration, It is understood, now realizes the importance of briuglng about changed working conditions In the stpel industry and convinced that governmental suggestions will go a long way toward lrducln ? the operators to make the changes voluntarily. No coercion on the part of the Government, Is expected, but the steel men will be appealed to remove to the causes which unquestionably caused the steel strike of 1910.”—Copyright, 192, by Public Ledger Company. the hair. Its natural function is to supply the hair with oil. But frequently it becomes infected. It cakes on the scalp; clogs the follicles and plugs them. Go to the mirror and you can see it in your hair, either in the form of dandruff or in that of an oily excretion at the hair roots. Germs by the millions breed in it, then feed upon the hair. Soon your hair begins falling. You note too how lifeless it appears. In a short time, all the natural lustre and beauty are gone. But— and note this scientific fact remove the Sebum and the hair reverts back to the ioftness and brilliancy it displayed when you were a school girl. The Van Ess ireatment accomplishes that result. We know you will doubt it. So we guarantee it. New hair grown in 90 days. Falling hair stopped in two weeks. Your own druggist gives you our guarantee to do these things. He signs it. If we fail, your money will be refunded without argument. We urge you to give this new way a fair trial. It is folly not to test it; for remember, you take no risk. Run Your Car For Less Money That’s good business and you can do it easily. Remember the quality of the gasoline you use has a very intimate bearing on your repair bills. If your car starts hard you are putting unnecessary wear on the generator, starting motor, and on the batteries. If your car does not accelerate smoothly you are putting a terriffic strain on the rear axle and playing hob with the tires. If the gasoline you use does not contain an unbroken chain of boiling point fractions a slap is being imparted to the piston which racks the engine shamefully. Use Ited Cram The High-Grade Gasoline It enables your car to start easily, to accelerate smoothly; it imparts a steady, steam-engine like pressure to the piston that makes power without racking your engine.
