Frank Cantwell, exposition committee chairman, declares that not an element of home making and keeping has been overlooked in the planning and arI rangement of the many Interesting and educational exhibits. "To the average person,” said he, "there may be little ! home sentiment or romance to such an ; everyday thing as plumbing or roofing or ’ casement windows. Build Your— Home Complete With -BRICK For Permanence, Economy, Strength, Safety and Beauty
Brick has equal value for the poor man’s cottage or the rich man’s palace, for the cobbler’s shop or the city hall, the wayside chapel or the metropolitan temple, and yet combines that strength and beauty which meets the requirements of both good taste and a thrifty purse. Other materials have their merits and make their appeal, but looking at the building problem on all sides, no other material approaches brick in the structural and artistic values it offers—permanence, comfort, safety from fire, economy and beauty. You owe it to yourself to look into this matter thoroughly. You should talk the matter over with us before deciding. It will cost you nothing and you are sure to get most valuable and practical suggestions. We challenge contradiction in saying that there is no other building material which, taken all in all. will combine so many merits of quality and style, economy, strength and beauty in your home as face brick. Durable as the eternal hills, it is proof against the corrosion <>f the seasons and the ravages of fire, thus reducing the cost of maintenance and depreciation to a minimum; and, beautiful in its varied colors and textures as the finest fabrics, it offers to the eye an artistic charm that meets the most refined and discriminating taste. Perhaps you frankly like the painted wood, the monochrome stucco, ilic varied stone or marble —a good house, if you will, may be built <>ut of jjiiiy of these materials—but you will find in them some weakness, danger, or excessive cost that brick avoids, while offering a variety of merits none of them combine. Your brick house costs you from a twentieth to a tenth more than the less substantial structures, hut it lasts twice as long and remains in a better condition. The same brick house costs far less than the heavier and more pretentious structures, and vet at the same time lasts as long, rivals them in substantial appearance and dignity, and excels them in the range of artistic effects. Brick has, as no other building material. unique characteristics of plasticity. The size and form of brick easily lend themselves to the skill of the mason craftsman, and either their uniformity or variety of texture and color ojfcrs to the architect the utmost possibilities in designing the wall surface. The face brick house suffers no depreciation for the first five years, according to appraisal engineers; and requires paint only for doors, windows and exterior trim. The frame house depreciates from the day it is finished at from 2 to 3 percent annually; and should he painted every few years. These maintenance and depreciation charges alone will in a few years, entirely wipe out the initial cost of brick, to say nothing of all the other items that go to make your face brick home all the time an investment of a permanent and remunerative value. A iason Contractors Association 320 Peoples Bank Bldg. Indianapolis, Ind. Visit Our Display at the Exposition We cordially invite you to visit our exhibit rooms where, from the panels of brickwork, you can get an idea of the many beautiful effects possible with face brick. We shall also be glad to discuss your building problems with you and give you any help we can. Among our plans of small face brick houses you may # find just the one you want.
