MOTOR GYPSIES ARE EN ROUTE TO EVERYWHERE Motor Clab Reports Larger Numbers This Year Than Usual. “Motoring gypsies,” are already flocking Into and through Indianapolis, according to the Hoosier Motor Club, in a statement Issued today. The few weeks prior to the speedway race always see an Influx of out-State automobile license plates, according to the statement, but it appears this influx or non-resident motorists has started earlier this spring than for many years. “Roads generally are getting In traveling shape very rapidly,” the Motor Club states. “We have tourists from California and from the Massachusetts region and from many States in between.” M. E. Xoblet, club secretary states. “The spring touring business includes more than the usual run of the class known as ‘tin can,’ so called because these folk are campers along their route, almost in the class of motor car gypsies. “Dozens of these camping tourists are coming to our headquarters in the Claypool Hotel for touring information daily,” Mr. Noblet continued. “The streets of our city are already spotted with the motoring knights and ladies. Khaki attire, with breeches and puttees even for the women, seems to be the favorite mode of dress, but many of the women this spring are wearing knickers and heavy woolen stockings. They are dresesd to meet the exigencies of motor travel. Where are they all colng? Just about as many p aces as tier are places on the map. These tourists are headed for everywhere, iione say they are headed for nowhere In particular—Just traveling around.” At present, the motor club states, there Is only one active camping site in the suburbs of Itidianapolls and this is at the south end of Riverside Park, where the park board has arranged conveniences for motor tourists. Several other camp sites will be arranged for this spring, It is stated. Many communities throughout Indiana are preparing for camps for motor tourists where conveniences will be provided. RADIO PLEA FROM LEGION Oswald Ryan Urges Memorial Day Observance. An appeal to the citizens of all Indiana communities to cooperate with the American Legion posts of Indiana In making Memorial Day “the most Impressive tribute to our noble dead which has yet been paid,” was the substance of a radio speech broadcasted fiom Anderson by Oswald Ryan, Indiana member of the national executive committee of the American Legion. The speech marked the formal opening of tha new Arrow Radio Laboratories broadcasting station, which was recently constructed. Among those who listened In on Mr. Ryan's speech were legion audiences at Brazil, Linton, Corydon, Morocco, Decatur and Fort Wayne. It was the first legion radio speech to be sent out from Indiana. Mr. Ryan said in part: “The permanent nad enduring purpose of the American Legion is to strengthen and preserve the basic principle* of our American institutions of orderly freedom. Large numbers of our people lu their rush for wealth and opportunity have forgotten the great price which was paid for these liberties upon fields of blood. Out of this has come the greatest danger to our commonwealth—citizen Indifference to civic obligations. “To save America from foreign-born radicals is simple and easy. Our real task Is to save America from indifferent Americans.”
