PARSON AND WIFE HAVE 2 MATES EACH — : The Rev. John Hemmer, Escapes Punishment on ) Spouse’s Admission. ET. LOUIE. Mo., April 28—The Ker. John Henry Hemmer, 55 years old, pastor of the Gospel if Truth Mission, arrested on the chase of disturbing the peace of his fourth wife, Alice, escaped prosecution for bigamy when Mra. Hemmer, who sought a warrant, had to admit that she did not know whether she waa free from her third husband. As for Hemmer. he admitted that the third Mrs. Hemmer, had a prior claim, but he did not ee? that Mrs. Hemmer No. 4 bad anything on him. The Hemmers are all-square in the matter of helpmeets. Hemmer has had four, counting Alice, and Alice has had four, counting the Rev. John Henry. Hemmer said his marital history bega nwhen he married Anna Brown at Barresville, Ky., In ISSS, when he waa only 18 years old. She died four years later and he stayed single until 1913, when ho married Fannie Kicks at White Hall, 111. She died In 1917, and In March, 7921, he married Katherine Blanche Martin in St- Louis. He said ahe deserted him the following July. MEETS HIS WmS-TO-BE. In November he opened a tent morion. Among those who came to hear him preach “The Gospel of Truth" was Mrs. Alice Davis, 52 rears old. He went to board with her, and when toey got better acquainted she told him that her husband. Tom. left her several years ago and she did not know whether he |bu alive. "Where am I at, what am I to do, that s what I want to know?” queried Alice. "Just sit still and don't rock the beat,’’ Osslng replied.
