TO USE BRICK , ON STATE ROAD Highway Commission Lets Contract for More Than Six Miles. The State highway commission hns determined to pave one section of the National highway, a stretch of 6.597 miles between Putnainville and a point one and one-half miles east of Mt. Meridian, with brick. A contract was let to the Carpenter Construction Company of Terre Haute, on a bid of $219,91.75. This price exceeds the lowest bid received for construction concrete more than 100 per cent. The stretch of road paved with brick, will have a concrete base. Brick interests claim that the concrete base required is the principal reason why brick roads can't oe built on a parity of cost with concrete. The difference between the cost of tlie brick and concretes for the job is $111,910.78. Brick has not b“en used in hard surfacing by the highway commission principally on uccounf of the cost.
