LOST KEYS MAKE MUCH TROUBLE No Monotony in Life of Lock Expert, Says Daum. To the uninitiated there would seem to be nothing more prosaic than the making ot keys, but according to Herbert A. Daunt, 43 Virginia avenue, lock and safe expert the key business is as full of romance as a tale ot the old Arabian Nights. “Don't think for minute that there Is anything monotonous in our experiences, Mr. Daum said. “Asa matter of fact it a most versatile, varied, and interesting life we read. Constantly we are called upon to meet about every possible emergency which can arise in the lock and key world. People just seem to have an unfailing genii’s for getting in trouble with their loci s, losing keys to everything lookers to homes, and automobiles, at the most inconvenient times, and then rushii g to us for instant relief. “This brings a lot of amusement and laughable experiences into our life, lor example not so long ago a woman called us up in a great state of uneasiness. She had just returned from California with live trunks, and had locked the keys to four trunks in one of them lost the key to it. And the funny part she could not even remember in which trunk she had locked the keys. It was the better part of a me .ling’s work to gel all those trunks opened. “It is a peculiar thing the great importance in a person's life an insignificant key may assume, under certain conditions. Not a day passes but I am called in a great hurry to open the front door, the office desk, or the ignition lock to the family automobile. In these last instances I usually find a well-developed family war on, each member of family ■passing the buck* to someone else as to the responsibility for the lost key. ••But, interesting as the key business is, it is only part of the work we do. We also turn out models, dies, steel let rets, repair and grind scissors and other implements and tool*, and last, but not least, there is our ‘hospital' for lawn mowers. “It Is Just about this time of the year that we begin to get our first lawn mower ‘partients.’ Nothing Is so disturbing to the peace of mind, of ihe househelder, as to come home, start out to ‘barber the lawn and find the lawn mower Is rusty, dull and Just simply refuses to out. Then is when we get a hurry-up call to put the machine in shape again." SAYS CITY IS PICTURE TOWN Artistic Homes Indicate Love of Art. Indianapolis citizens are remarkably fond of good pictures and other works of art, according to Samuel Molner, manager of the Fine Arts Rug and Cleaning Company, 343 Massachusetts avenue. This he says has been proved to his complete satisfaction within the past year by close personal observation. “I have heard it said that Indianapolis is not a ‘picture town,’" Molner Fttld. “and often I have wondered what kind f a city It would be if it were not a picture town. The phrase ’picture town is the vernacular of tin picture and frame traveling man means a town where he finds a ready market fnr his ner-handlse. “I never could understand why a city like Indianapolis would not take kindly to art works of the better sort, and whm more than a yc3r we first contemplated opening a branch In this city 1 was warned by men in the trade to avoid Indianapolis, and when I did not heed their advise they predicted certain failure for tne. “In looking over Indianapolis I found It to be a city of beautiful homes, com-

sortable homes, homes In which the owners took the utmost personal pride and I immediately made up my mind that my well-meaning friends u;ul been grievously mistaken when they told me to avoid Indianapolis, for a city of homes cuu be nothing but a picture town, for homes of external beauty mean that their owners take pride in them, and to take pride in a home means to have its interior tastefully and artistically decorated, and this is impossible without the use of pictures. “1 always have noticed that a city of homes is a city of pictures. So we followed tills logic and the success of our business the very first year shows that we were justified fully in our conclusions. In fact even our greatest and most optimistic expectations were exceeded to such an extent that since we opened the store we have found it necessary to quadruple our floor space in order to handle the business that has come to us on pictures, mirrors, art novelties and kodak finishing work. “An interesting department of our business is the renovation of oil paintings. This is delicate work and requires the services of experts to do it successfully. Many homes have on their walls old time oil paintings of great value to the family, but througbh t.ge they have been become cracked and marred to a point where their original beauty and charm have been lost a great extent. It is astounding the remarkable results that can be obtained by curefu’ aud skillful work toward restoring them to their original condition.’’ SULPHUR BATHS EFFECT CURE Modern Science Makes Treatment Available to All. From time immemorial man has struggled unceasingly to gain money but even above wealth be has. In the final analysis, valued health. For this reason when ill ho will make any sacrifices of a financial character to restore the health he has lost. This Is the opinion expressed by G. P. Cruzan, manager of the Sulphur Vapor Baths and Massage, 1312Vj West Washington street. “It Is peculiar, In this connection," Mr. Cruzan said, how old Ideas prevail. In the days beftre modern science had accomplished miracles It was necessary for persons to be taken to certain places where there were waters or conditions or elements of great curative powers. At that time It was Impossible to reproduce these same conditions away from the place in which nature had placed them originally. "Then came the scientific age, and It has developed to a point where It Is possible to reproduce nlmost any given condition at almost any place. This makes It possible to give treatments at home at very small expense which n*t so long ago were accessible only to persons of wealth at a great expenditure of time and money. “And yet so persistent 1s the old Idea, that people still go on long pilgrimages to health resorts and mineral water springs when the same results could be obtained at home. In our own estab lißbment we are able to give sulphur baths by the famous Dr. Kruse system, a system which 1 am convinced bv practical experience Is the most s<|enfiflc In the world for the treatment of rheumatism and kindred ailments These treatments are available right here In In dlannpolis and obviate the necessity of patients traveling long distances at great expense and taking valuable time from their business in order to tako sulphui baths. “The custom of taking the patients to the cure Is a relic of barbarism. It took several thousand years of slow development to bring human beings to a realization of tho fact that these curative properties are inherent to the sulphur and not to any special geographlcal locnllty, and that the cure was in the sulphur and not In the locality. “One of the most recent and remark-

able cures for diseases of certain kinds is the Dr. Kruse system of sulphur baths. These baths combine the medical properties of the famous sulphur and mineral springs with other curative properties which make the baths capable of effecting remarkable and hitherto un-heard-of results. And the very best part of all is that these baths may be obtained without going away from Indianaapolis.” PUBLIC DEMANDS BEST OF FOOD Case Service Has Progressed in Recent Years. There has been a great advance In the equipment of restaurants and eating places and In tho care taken in the preparation of foodstuffs within the last few years. It used to be that customers of downtown cafeterias and lunch rooms, while not at all satisfied with chat frequently was given them, put up with It as a necessary evil and simply ate as seldom as possible away from homo. This is the opinion Grace Anna Rust, manager of the Russet Cafeteria, 37 South Meridian street. “Gone are the trays, and gone forever, when fond of poor quality, pre* pared in a haphazard manner, can be expected to satisfy business men and women,” Miss Rust said. The population has become so thoroughly educated and Is so exacting that only the very highest quality of food, prepared by competent, trained cooks and served amidst pleasant and comfortable surroundings at popular prices, will satisfy it. "When we opened our cafeteria recently the instant response we found from the public proved conclusively that we were fully Justified in our opinions as to what it v,s the public wanted. "It was our particular object when we organized to give downtown business and professional men and women a place where they could obtain a good meal, well cooked, at moderate prices and ptill be assured of surroundings as pleasant as at the most exclusive and expensive eating places. “With this object 1n mind, we provided pleasant and at the same time unostentatious decorative effects, soft lights, subdued colorings, and this, coupled with the courtesy of our employes, has been conducive to an atmosphere entirely satisfactory to our clientele. “Then we abolished monotonous menu* which kill the Joy of eating In every normal individual. We make it a special point to change our menu* daily art'l thus avoid the constant and tiresome repitltlon of any particular dish. “The quality of food served by n* Is of
