PIG YEAR AHEAD FOR STUDEBAKER Record Automobile Production Planned by Company. It takes a world of real, downright, American courage :'or an automobile company, or any other, for that matter, to plunge Into a year with the slogan “this Will be the biggest year we ever have had, - * with business conditions as they are, but that is exactly what Studebaker Is doing. Despite adverse business conditions of the past year and prophecies of a slow and dragging recovery of old time prosperity during the coming season, Studebaker ha? gone ahead and made arrangements for a record-breaking year in every way, according to A. W. Buck, president of the Buck Company, distributors in this territory for the Studebaker. “And what Is more Studebaker is making good on Us plan," Mr. Buck said. “Already production at the South Bend plant Is far ahead of that of last year for a similar period, and by the end of the year all Studebaker records of the past will have been smashed with a wide margin to spare. “Many persons said It was foolhardy for our company to adopt a plan like this at a time like this, but they had not stopped to anaylze conditions or they would have realized that there was nothing reckless, foolhardy or extravagant about the Studebaker Idea in this matter. “In the first place Studebaker, unlike the great majority of automobile manufacturing concerns, is not a borrowing corporation. It does not owe a cent in the world to any bank or financial Institution. Not only that but it actually Is a lender of money. This of course means that the company can go ahead with Its plans, once they are decided upon, regardless of the attitude or opinions or pressure of any outsiders. “Then through loug years Studebaker has built up a fine reputation .or producing a product that is all right in every particular. This means that there is always a steady and constantly growing demand for the Studebaker car. “For example take our own case here In Indianapolis. We have been in business for many years and have restricted our efforts to the Studebaker. Asa result we know our customers. It Is a great tribute to the fine quality of the car, that year after year, the same customers come back to buy a Studebaker. We have on our lists Teteran motorists who never have owned a car ether than Studebaker, and this is proof positive of the worth of the car.” “It certainly looks to me as If Jhls year will be a big one In every way from the Studebaker standpoint.”

CALIFORNIA OUT OF HARD TIMES* AREA (Continued From Page One.) every sort and description, that it is in an entirely different position from a State that depends on any one great staple, such as cotton, or corn, or cattle, or copper. It produces minerals; it raises livestock; It has great agricultural resources, net only staples, but garden truck, fruits, nuts, prunes and raisins.' Ina°ed, California Is not a State at all in the ordinary acceptance of the term; It Is virtually a self-sustaining commonweilth or empire, and Just now it can lay claim, with good reason, to being -'r.s of the soundest States, economically, In the whole Union. CONSCIOUS OF NEW SITUATION. The itinerant observer acutely 1s conscious of the new situation and the new condition as soon as he comes through the mountain barrier that separates California from the more arid and less fertile States Immediately to the eastward. The population is Increasing here at a greater rate, and the volume of business Is increasing. There Is a system of marketing agricultural products of Tarious sorts through cooperative associations that is being copied by other States. This State is affected, however, by the conditions in adjoining teeritories. California banks largely finance stock-raising and agriculture in Arizona, Nevada and Idaho. There are large interests in California that are depressed to a degree when these States are depressed and are prosperous when these States are prosperous. So that It comes about when i there Is no condition in California to cause apprehensive, banking, and business Interests may be concerned about the situation in which the Arizona cattie and cotton people find themselves, or about the farmers and stockraisers in Idaho. This situation exists here now. It is not a California condition, but it affects the people in California who do business on the other side of the mountains. Whatever strain existed four or five months ago with respect to Arizona. N'ew Mexico and the southwest has been relieved greatly. That situation is in hand and Is on the road to recovery, unless there should be a setback or unusual adverse weather conditions. The Nevada, Utah and Idaho condition, one has yet to examine. One encounters here the first intimation of an Interest In the present economic situation of those States. Politically, California will be highly Interesting this summer. This Is the only State west of the Mlssisslpp, wnh one exception, where the people are removed sufficiently from their recent economic stress to take an interest in politics and public questions. The otio exception is Wyoming, where there is a keen and growing Interest in the coming contest between Representative Mondell ar.d Senator Kendrick for the United States Senate. Kendrick seeks to succeed himself and Mondcll seeks to move

over from the House leadership to the Senate chamber. Here in California there will be an even more interesting contest for the Senate. Senator Johnson comes up for re-election, and the present effort of those who are against him Is to find an opponent. An unsuccessful effort was made to enlist Secretary Hoover while he was o "t here. Mr. Hoover declined. Now Chester Rowell, a longtime friend and lieutenant of Johnson, is one of half a dozen being talked about. It Is too early yet to say who will be selected. There is clearly in the State a -strong sentiment In favor of the four-power treaty, which Senator Johnson so warmly opposed. An effort will be made to crystallize this sentiment and use it against Johnson, but

he would be a rash person who would say at this juncture that the effort would be successful. Johnson has a powerful hold on this State. He has done a great deal for it. He made an admirable record as Governor. He has strong friends all through the State. He has never lost a political contest In California, and while many of his friends out here were in favor of the four-power treaty, they would not vote against Johnson simply because he opposed it. He will be a hard man to beat, and everybody here knows It. Every probability Ts in his favor. California has become the front door of the United States in the sense of international politics. Asa world power we now face toward the West. All of our international concerns and problems are

Well Known Hospital Physician Says These Are Some of the Danger Signals of Exhausted Nerve Force —What To Do
One of the most terrible of all human ailments Is exhausted nerve force. It weakens all the vital organs of the body and as a result all kinds of alarming symptoms may appear. Some people get nervous indigestion, pains over the eyes, in the heart, snd across the small of the hack; In Others the first symptoms are mental Instead of physical—sleeplessness, wrry over trifles, or inability to concentrate on your work. The nervous mother Is trpset by her children, squabbles with her husband. has frequent fits of tho “blues” and bursts into tears over the smallest troubles. In such cases it Is worse than useless to waste time taking stimulating medicines or narcotic drugs; the starving nerve cells must have nerve food which Is supplied by tlie blood. Any physician will tell you that if the biood supply were cut off from any nerve In your body that tho nerve would die.
