SKEPTICS SCOFF AT DISCOVERIES Scientific Revolutions Accepted Reluctantly in Many Quarters. While one set of non-progressive persons are vehemently asserting something cannot be done, someone else with imagination and initiative is going ahead calmly and doing It. Such bus been the way since the world was young. The conservative clement of a community or a nation Is apt to be skeptical of anything which It does not fully understand, and makes no effort to understand things with which It has not been familiar from earliest childhood. In many Instances discoveries have been denounced as of no practical use. It was this way with the steam engine, the steam boat, the telephone and telegraph, the bicycle, the automobile, and the airplane, and today many persons are calmly asserting that the radio phone is of no practical use. M. 1,. Galerman, doctor of chiropractic, <2B State Life building, says that this has been the history of chlropracty. “Our profession has been opposed by persons who forget that these are days of change, when scientific revolutions are effected overnight." he said. "Take chiropractic adjustment, for example. It releases the latent force which is an Inherent part of all living organisms, stirring all dormant matter to renewed life, vigor and action; and Its value In the restoration of conditions wherein normal functioning of the various organs may be resumed is testified to by thousands of chronic Invalids who have regained normal health through Its application. “Nerve compression at the spinal Junctures Is the cause of almost all diseases, I believe, nerve tracings from the spine to the periphery, as a confirmation of the causltive theory of disease. Specific adjustment of vertebrae in a particular direction with a certain, definite amount of speed and force will eliminate effectually the cause of a particular trouble by accurately realizing the subluxated vertebrae, and this can be accomplished only by a system of palpitation and analysis peculiar to cblropratlc practice. “The rapid growth In popularity, which the profession has won for itself, is proof beyond any need of demonstration chiropractic has won for itself a distinct and well-earned place Ls the hearts of people who have been benefltter by It.”
POPULARITY OF LA UNDRY GROWS Now Regarded as Modern Economic Necessity. Gone are the days when the very word laundry was synonomous with torn clothes, faded colors, ripped-off buttons and ruined clothing, says Paul R. Syers, manager of the Sanitary Laundry. 2441 - 2443 Central avenue. With modern machinery, better processes ana the application of modern science to r.he business all this has been changed he said. “Not so many years ago any Joke at tho expense of a laundry was received with laughter and appreciation,” Mr. Syers added. , "In those times the work was done !m perfectly and many a housewife never trusted her household linen or wearing apparel to a laundry, except In an emergency of some kind, and she held her breath when finished work had been returned until she could determino the exact extent of her damages. “But now, everything Is different Improved machinery, scientific management and modern business methods have worked a revolution. Today the class of work dons In a laundry is In fact better 1n quality than that done In an average home. This has led to an unprecedented increase In the amount of household work sent out to high-class laundries and accounts for the growing popularity of this kind of work. ■•S<rvlee Os the best kind Is given by

the better equipped of these concerns and they have taken a big load off the shoulders of the housewife, and the laundry instead of being regarded as a dire engine of destruction to be avoided as much as possible is now looked upon as a real boon and benefactor which lightens the task of druggery In the home. "It certainly Is a peculiar and interesting fact the scarcely heard-of things of one generation become the luxuries of the next and then progress rapidly from luxuries to conveniences and from conveniences to necessities. This Is the case with the laundry. A novelty only a few years back, looked upon with concern and a certain degree of amusement, It now has taken its place in modern life as an economic necessity.” CEMENT BLOCKS IN BIG DEMAND Open Winter Encourages Continuance of Building. So great has been the demand for cement blocks during past winter that It has been impossible for at least one firm to lay up a stock to be used as reserve for the Increasing demand that Is sure to come with spring, according to L. W. Lewis, secretary treasurer of the Helm-Lewis Cement Block Company, Fourteenth street and Fall Creek. Mr. Lewis said that open winter has resulted In a great amount of building and construction work being done during months which ordinarily see a cessation of activities of this character. “We have been turning out cement blocks at the rate of about 1,500 a day,” he said, but we have been unable to lay up a supply for futures use so great has been the demand for the product. “Time, material and labor costs are saved by the use of these blocks In the construction of walls In residences and stores. We manufacture rock-faced, panel faced and all other standard blocks. The first named Is used almost exclusively In residences, while tho panel faced variety are used In stores and other commercial and business buildings. “It has been Just a year since the Helm-Lewis Company was formed and In that time we have turned out more than three hundred thousand blocks. The capacity of the plant Is about three a minute although in the near future Improvements will be made Increasing the output about 25 per cent. "We established our factory near Fal l Creek, where there is an enormous sup ply of sand and gravel available, the largest In the State, 1 believe, with exception of the sand dunes along Lake Michigan la the extremo northwestern part of Indiana. It has been estimated that there Is contained in the pile übout 450.000 cubic yards of sand. We hav< used only about one-twelfth of the original amount, which means we will bi able to continue for eleven more years “During the last year there has been a drop of 25 per cent or more In thr price of cement blocks, and I am convinced that If the freight rates are low ered from their present abnormal height there will be still another decrease lr price. Business conditions are unusually good. In spite of genera! conditions. At a general thing business falls off In thir season of the year, but present Indies tions are that as long as weather will permit there will be eonslderatde build Ing activity In Indianapolis the reat of tho winter. “As great as has been activity along home building lines In Indianapolis dur lng the past veer, the home shortage has not been relieved, as yet, and the demand for well built, modern homer still Is very Insistent. During the com lng year this demand will Increase, un doubtedly, as good weather approaches.' POP-BOTTLE FASH, LOOK! HASH JOKES NO LONGER POPULAR High Class Eating Places Serve Only Best of Food. The old joke about hash not being made but accumulating has lost Its force in tho light of the manner In which restaurants and cafeterias of the better sort are conducted, according to Michael Ward of the Denison Cafeteria in the Denison Hotel. Neither need the customer be afraid to order croquettes or hash soup for the much hated “comebacks,” that is, food that has been served to one customer being served over under a dls ! guise or camouflage, is a thing of the past in cafeterias of the class of the Denison, 1m added. Speaking of this Mr. Ward said: “I traveled for twenty years and al ways found It paid to keep away from croquettes, hash soups and such articles of food in restaurants, hotels and boarding houses, as they were made from ‘comebacks.’ and when I started the Dentson cafeteria I made up my mind that there never would be anything of that kind used In my place—consequently there never has been objctlons to the quality of our food. “We make a specialty for breakfast of fresh toast made of fresh bread while you wait. We never use stale bread. The bread is cut thick aud toasted so It Is tender, not hard, un less so ordered. Eggs, the freshest we can get, are cooked to order, Just as you want them. We never use stor age eggs nor liquid eggs or any other substitute for fresh eggs even to cook with. Nothing but strictly fresh eggs are used for any purpose In our case terla. Our aim is to please our customers always. If you do not see what you like In our counters, you may order anything you like at any time In the day anil we will cook It for you 1 it Is In the market. “Wo make a specialty of late, of serving a special T-bone steak for supper. They are very nice and tender, and can not bo had, for the money, anywhere." "New customers are coming every day. They tell us somebody told them to come, on account of our special blend of coffee, or on account of our wnderful pies r our 6alads or the flatter of our cooking. It Is a great pleasure to for us to know, that our customers aro pleaseii and that they tell others. We believe they aro pleased, or they would not continue to come regularly for three meals everyday. Os course, we have a few kickers. We realize wo would have them ls everything was satisfactory. But you never can get something for nothing, good quality in anything has it value. And In the question of food, people make a mistake In trying to get cheap food. It Is dangerous to eat cheap meat. You can not mnko your system s requirements meet your desire to save money. Your doctor knows. If people would cat only good wholesome food, even at a high rate, It would be cheaper In the end, when your health Is conslderod at all. But at our cafeteria the food is not high price, but within the rvurh of every ono. You understand wn do not handlo cheap quality at all; wo servo tho best wo can got ns rwusontiblo as possible. “The suooosa we havo made In so short time shows pcoplo In general ore reasonable. They appreciate our efforts to please them. Wo certainly have no kick coming. We, on tho other hand aro very prond, not only because of financial success, but because of the success wo have had in gaining friends among our many pleased customers. "We could not make a financial success
