WILL ATTEMPT TO KEEP OUT BOOZE BY WALL WASHINGTON, March 2L—A twentieth century booze blockade composed of air planes, subchasers and speedy automobiles linked together by wireless is being set up by the Prohibition Bureau. Plans are maturing, officials declared here today, for a ten thousand mile “wall” about the United States to keep out alien rum. With this blockade 100 per cent effective, prohibition chiefs are confident the only source of supply of “good” liquor will be completely cut off and that drink- | lng thus will be ended. Ia working out this plan. Commission** Roy A. Haynes already has: Obtained the use of airplane* on the Florida and Texas borders. Secured a fleet of nine sub-ehasgf* to work in South Atlantic watoM. Concentrated highly equipped force* on the New York, New Jersey and New England Coast lines practically chasing the majority of smuggler* from that section., Set up a system of wireless communications along the Canadian border in Michigan to enable law officers to chase smugglersf more readily. Haynes intends to send experts to the territories where smugglers now are concentrating to build uj) the blockade gradually. The Canadian border will be taken up, it is said. This will necessitate the expenditure of more than a million dollars from the appropriation granted by Congress. -.The situation in the interior, however, where complete cooperation of State and civic officials will effect a big saving this year, makes a larger amount available to build a blockade. Voters to Register Wine, Beer Sentiment SAN FRANCISCO, March 21.—San Francisco voters will be called upon at the November election to determine whether they desire a modification of the Volstead act. Requested by the Order of Camels and other "wet” organizations to meiuorUOmq Congress for the restoration cf wines and beer, the city board of supervisors decided to “pass the buck” to the people and ordered steps taken to put the question on the ballot. Mayor and Dramatic Director to Take Part Mayor Samuel Lewis Shank and O. Carte ton Guy, dramatic director of the city recreation bureau, have consented to take part in a minstrel show to be presented by the Hoosier Square and Com pass Club at the Murat on April 14 and 15. Roy Stoltz, president of the club, and Horace Mitchell are directing the entertainment. OSBORNE CANCELS TALK.
