AUTO AS GOOD AS ITS WHEELS Few Realize Necessity of Rim Adjustments. Autlmobiles will run without tires If the necessity for such a proceeding arises; they will run without hoods, without bodies, fenders, seats, and many other supposedly vital parts, but one thing they will not do, and that Is run without wheels. And these wheels cause unlimited trouble, that Is wheels and rims, when they are so minded. They get out of line and wear out tires, they get smashed, they squeak and creak and drive the owner of even the highest grade cars half crazy, and it is to remedy these wheel and rim trouble that the Indiana Wheel and Rim Company, 40 West North street, devotes the greater part of its attention. ‘‘We take that nerve-racking squeak out of automobile wheels,” the manager of the company said, ‘‘and we avoid tti* cutting of valve stems in tubes by putting proper fitting wedges on the rims. We repair and replace all broken and damaged parts. Our service is so extensive that we carry in stock practically every known make of wheel, whether it be wood, wire or disc, and If we are given three days’ notice we can paint wood wheels any color ordered by the customer. We also carry a stock of rims for every make of car and truck from 1912 on down to 1922, and all we have to know to send our customer away thoroughly satisfied Is the make, model and year of the automobile and the make and size of the rim. “Few persons realize the Importance cf the proper care of wheels and rims. The average motorist Is In a fine position to take care of ordinary mechanical troubles, and It Is surprising how expert many of them become in matters of this kind. But practically none know anything about wheels and rims, wlhleh should be glvn as much care as the motor and which should always be kept properly lined up and adjusted. Many a motorist compiains of the poor mileage he is getting out of tires and tries first one make and then another in a vain attempt to get satisfactory results. When he fails to get satisfactory results he blames the tires for something which Is no fault of their, but belong on a fauly rim o r improperly aligned wheels. As motorists come to realize this they pay more attention to these vital needs, and when they do they find themselves more than repaid for their trouble.” WINTER NO BAR TO FLOOR WORK Cold Months Ideal Time To Refinish Floort?. Although winter usually is regarded as about the most undesirable, time of the year to Inaugurate any form of building operations or building repairs, it the ideal time to have hardwood floors installed, refinlshed or repaired, according to Roy A. I’enrson, hardwood floor sj (■■ iallst. r><>!> Peoples Bank Butldln*. "New Is the Ideal time to have hard-; wood floors refinlshed or laid," Mr. Fearsou said. “During the winter months bul ding operations as a whole, come to a standstill, through necessity, for structural work can be done only in haphazard fashion during the cold months. “But these conditions do not apply to hardwood floor work. During these months we can do the work without; the least delay, but if householders wait! until spring, as they so often do, before ordering work done, then they will find the big rush on In full force and will j

be forced to wait until their turn come, around. “Too frequently householders fall to take care of their hardwood floors in the proper fashion. They neglect them until they have to be scrapped, often planed and a great amount of expensivu work done that could be avoided with more frequent retinishing. “In the past few years we have found that people are waking up to the necessity of maintaining their floors in ns good a condition as ttey do the res*, of the house, and we are called on frequently to finish not only floors but sta.iways as v l. “The luxuries of yesterday have become the necessities of today and when It is realized that not so many years ago many persons looked upon a hardwood floor as a form of extravagance, and that these same persons now have come to see that the installation of hardwood floors in the home is in the long run a wonderful economy, it may be seen haw far ahead we have gone along those lines. Nowadays no home is considered modern unless it is furnished with hardwood floors.” LOST KEYS KEEP EXPERT ON JUMP Must Be Ever Ready To Meet Sudden Emergencies. It's a versatile, varied and Interesting career a lock and safe expert leads, according to Herbert A. Daum, 43 Virginia avenue, for he Is called upon to meet emergencies of every kind and help Individuals and business houses out of all kinds of trouble. “It's a peculiar thing, the great Importance In a man's life a little. Insignificant key can assume,” Mr. Daum said. “It Is pust a matter of routine, as It were, tho carrying of the office key, the key to the desk, the door key, the Ignition switch key. or any other of the dozens of keys men aDd women load themselves down with. But Just let one of these little keys turn up missing and then It assumes an undreamed of Importance. “Hardly a day passes but whßt I am called upon by someone with tragedy lu his or her voice, to come and get the front (Kior open, or to open the office desk, or maybe It is a trunk that has come from a long distance, with, the kev safe at the shipping point. It certainly is a busy lifu we lead, ami, of course, I have to lie always ready to give quick service, too, for the replacement of a key is not a matter to be kept waiting indefinitely. “However, the key business is far from being all there is to this Job of mine. That is only ono.very Interesting branch of the work. I i also turn out model's, dies, steel let'ers. repair and grind scissors and paper knives, shears and edge tools, and a grda: deal of this work wo get, too. And u s t, but not least, there is our ‘hospital for lawn mowers,’ which is known all over Indianapolis. Nothing worries the average householder and head of a family more than does a dull lawnmowep or on.* out’of repair, and when the go..d, warm spring days coma along and tho grass shows a sudden desire to grow ns fast as possible, I am deluged with calls to give the old family mower a good overhauling. -Wise individuals are attending to this little matter right now and are having their mowers put in good condition for the summer campaign, knowing that while the work can be done very quickly now, they will lmve to wait their turns if they delay until the big rush Marts.” SPEED OF UM ■ The planet Venus moves around the sun at an average speed of twenty-two miles a second.

SERVICE POLICY PROVES WINNER Downtown Druggist Wins Customers By New Method. More and more In this modern business age do merchants realize the and necessity of service in commercial life. The old days when a store was merely a place to F x\ buy something, and f [ M \\ where no accommo-I / mm m \ dations of any kind I i could bo obtained without paying in Ii cold cash for then . J \ / Is rapidly passing, j / according to Unas / W. Brooks, retail! druggist, whose well 1 tSW** appointed Etore Is , located at PennsylOna w. Brooks, vania and Ohio streets. “When I opened this store,” Mr. Brooks said, “I had in mind the necessity of giving far more than the ordinary conventional drug store In the line of service, and results have convinced me that I was thoroughly Justified in my Judgment. j “The first thing we did was to see | that the store was properly stocked, j and in a modern, up-to-date, downtown ! drug store this is a real tnsk, for a i modern drug store must carry a wide | variety of goods, ranging from drugs 1 to soda water, and from toilet supplies to cigars and cameras. “Os course, our main specialty always has been the prescription business, where wo have adhered without variation to the absolute rule of no substitution in the prescription department. This has resulted in our prescription department being generally recognized as one of the very finest In the State. “Realizing the necessity of meeting a downtown demand wo began to serve a , j light lunch, which has proved very pop- j | ular with busy men and women. Our j camera and photographic supply departi inent is one of the most complete In ! the city, and we have built up an as- | tonishlnsly large trade .n this branch ! of the business alone. “We went frankly and openly on a : ; cut price basis, for we knew. Just as everyone knew, that ibis Is the proper! way to conduct a drug business, under! existing conditions, and at the same time save money for the buying public. Os! 1 course, we have gained hundreds of cus-! tomers by this policy. "For the accommodation of the public i ! we have always made It a rule to wrap 1 packages free for parcel post shipment, i The fact that the postoffice Is across; ; the Rtreet from our store brings a nuiltii tude of persons into our place of business who have parcels to prepare for shipment, and few persons, either have; the proper equipment or knack of vrap- j ping a package properly for shipment. 1 "In line with this we gladly check; baggage or baskets free at any time! and many are the friends of the storo! whose friendship dates back to some occasion when they took advantage of this service for which we make no charge.’* Bov, in Plaster Cast, Has PinoclC' School BAKER, Ore , Jan. .10,—School for Toor Pinochle Flayers—thut is the latest Institution In Baker. STUDEBAKERS HAVE BIG YEAR Make New Record for 1921 and Plan Big Future. With the big automobile factory at South. Bend w r orking to capacity On a production schedule calling for 8,000 Studebaker cars this month, 7,700 in February, the shortest month of the year, and 8,000 to 8,500 In March, the Studebaker Corporation of Ameria Is in a position to look upon the term “fljaanlai depression” as a myth. At least this Is the opinion expressed by an official of the Buck Company, distributors in this territory for the Studebaker automobile. “On Dee. 31, Studebaker closed the most successful year In its history,” he said. “The company sold about 09,500 cars, even more than in the record year of 1916, when the company turned ouv a large amount of war business. The receipts of the company will exceed $95,000.000. The company will go Into 1922 in the strongest financial position In Its history. It has between $8,000,000 and $9,000,000 cash, and owes nothing at the banks. Asa matter of fact today Studebaker la a lender of money, not a borrower. "The South Bend plant now Is operating at capacity. The production schedule calls for 8,000 cars this month, 7,700 in February, and 8,000 to 8,500 in March. This means a minimum production In the current quarter of 23,700 cars, anew three months’ record. The previous record was made in the second quarter of 1921, when 22,305 automobiles were turned oat. The great increase In the volume of business being done by the factory may be realized when It said that In the first quarter of last year only 11,000 cars were produced as again** 23,700 scheduled for the current quarter, an Increase of considerably more than 100 per cent. "In 1921 only two quantity producing automobile plants showed an Increase in the number of cars sold over the previous year. Studebaker ran 29 per cent ahead, while the industry, as a whole, exclusive of one car, ran 40 per cent behind. To my mind these figures prove beyond a doubt that Studebaker Is in for a record year In 1922.” SPEAKING OF HARD UTK. COLUMBUS, Jan. 30.—During the more than fifty years spent by Robert Wlli.ams, 74, as a puddle,’ In steel mills, he escaped serious injury and“ e p!te the fact that he handled many tons of molten metal Hospital physicians stated amputation may be necessary as a result of Wiliams dropping a teakettleful of boiling water on his feet.
