There will always be women with hair so beautiful, so perfect that they refuse (o cover or embellish It lu any way. But, for the most of us, the bandeaux is a bit of fanciful barbarism that is quite irresistible. This fall It is particularly good. For the classic and the conservative type nothing quite equals the wreath of laurel leaves. There Is a splendid crop of them just now, made of velvet, of s!l----tissue with a veinJng of rhinestones, of gold, severely plain, and, in the sketch, of sequin mater Mis opalescent like mother of pearl and edged with gold. Just above it is a maiden, who, in spite of prohibition, leans toward the crown of vine leaves. Her wreath Is made of small pale green grapes, miniature pink roses and little velvet grape leaves. Above, to the left, is the popular bandeaux of metal tissue, caught at the side with a polnsettia of deep red velvet and gold petals. All of these follow the lines of the Greek bandeaux, while the crown, made of tiny strings of pearls and rhinestones, at the lower right is of a later and more formal period. The pearl loops on the sides are much longer, dangling over the : ears in approved fashion. Another near Greek filet had a large ! cluster of grapes falling over the left j ear. |
LEGION PLANS BIG DRIVE FOR COMPENSATION (Continued From Pago One.) tafton committee, and Daniel F. Steek of Des Moines, lowa, chairman of the legislative committee. SEPARATE FEKTINGS IN AFTERNOON. The first part of the afternoon was given over to separate meetings of the executive and legislative committees and department commanders and adjutants after which a general session was held at ; 3 :30 o’clock. In his opening talk, Commander MacNider made It plain that In his mind tho strength of the legion lay in its local units and national headquarters,. under his administration, would not try to lni stitute any campaigns or drives in any | State against the will of that department. ; “I want it distinctly understood,’ he i said “that J am not trying to dictate to | the department. I am merely going to | suggest some things.” He then took up the lowa plan and went into it briefly, explaining the cen--1 sus was taken largely through the untiring effort of the women of the women of the legion auxiliary. He did not claim that the lowa plan had worked perfectly in that State, but he said he was convinced it wag a good one, because, although it had been conducted with only what he considered 40 per cent efficiency, it had succeeded in bringing 45 per cent of tho former service men of the State into the legion.
HUM) OCT LEGION VALt ABLE TO THEM. “Tije reason they came in was because they found the legion meant something to them.” he explained. “This drive was not a membership drive, but it resulted in increased membership because it gave s in.thing to the men. ”1 can ncit see why we can not make ! the legion into something so big that it will be able to accomplish what it wants in regard to disat led veterans and other things it advocates.
