OBREGONS JOB COVETED; NEW REVOLT BEGUN 'A Villareal, Former Minister of. Agriculture, Leads in Attempt to Overthrow. ENLISTS GONZALES’ AID SAN ANTONIO, Texas. Jan. 6.—A new revolt to overthrow Alvaro Obregon as president of Mexico has been started by Antonio Villareal, former minister of agriculture in tne Obregon cabinet, according to official information received here today. Villareal, now in the mountains near Monterey, Mexico, has enlisted the aid of Gen. Pablo Gonzales at Laredo and the Carranzista followers here, according to the report and professes to have 10,000 men ready for the field. The Obregon troops, during the last three days, are reported to have made more than 250 arrests in connection with the new revolutionary plot. United States agents are expecting Villareal to cross the international boundary to further his revolutionary activities. According to information received by United States operatives in Mexico, the Carranzista supporters and the followers of Gen. Pablo Gonzales ate to join in a united movement Into Mexico from border points with troops secured by Billareal. The exact time for the movement to begin has not been ascertained. It is understood, however, that it is planned for the latter part of January or the early part of February. Candido Aguilgr, son-in-law of the late President Carranza, who is now playing the role of a gentleman farmer near here, denies any knowledge of such a movement, but other Carranzistas close to Aguilar claim that they have been approached and are In a receptive mood. It has been known for some time that General Gonzales at Laredo has been quietly working with his followers along the border accumulating arms and am munition, preparatory to making another attempt to overthrow Obregon. > The Villareal revolt is held by United States agents to be significant, in view of the fact that the huge oil tax payments, totaling over $23,000,000, are due the present Mexican government from the oil interests of the United States on Jan. 23. 57 VARIETIES OF CHARGES ARE NULL AND VOID Prosecutor Evans Moves to Clear Court Roster. REASONS FOR ACTION Fifty-seven indictments today were nolled on a motion of Prosecutor William P. Evans in the-Marion County Criminal Court. Among the defendants were Harry Hornsteiu, Anna M. Gossett, Harry (Goosie) Lee, Kate Zimmerman, Neva Welty, Samuel G. Bullup, John, Melvin, A. Leonard Campbell and others who have figured prominently in the Criminal Court for the last year. Prosecutor Evans in explaining the reasons for dismissing the fifty-seven cases on h.s own motion, said: ' FIVE INDICTMENTS AGAINST ONE MAN. "Live of the fifty-seven indictments dismissed were against A. Leonard Campbell of Chicago,- who is now in prison. Two of the defendants were turned over to Federal authorities. Thirty have been convicted on other charges. Six dismissed have been reindicted and have been tried. One defendant was sent to the hospital for criminal Insane. Only four defendants, who have nut been tried in court, were dismissed because the evidence was insufficitut. Two of that four were for vagrancy charges, one was for surety of the peace (now settled satisfactorily), and the remaining one wa against three boys, one or whom is now in the reformatory. These boys wero charged with conspiracy to steal an automobile. The evidence against the other two was insufficient. Three cases wero rversed on an appeal to the Indiana State Supreme Court because of insufficient evidence and in those cases no further evidence was obtainable One case was reversed on an appeal to the Supreme Court because of the insufficient evidence presented in Juveniler court. I am rferriug to the Elizabeth Mayhew case growing out of the Federal Hotel case. One defendant died prior to trial and in three cases the Juries have disagreed. BUENOS AIRES, Jan. 6— Thomas Ellis, an American, was confined here for three months awaiting trial for stealing a SSOO diamond ring. During this time the authorities could not find the ring, though they searched Kills dally and even X-rayed him. REFORMATORY SITES CLASSIFIED Only Few of 165 Proposals to Reach Committee. Claslflcation of the proposed sites for the new reformatory, now located at Jeffersonville, were being made by members of the relocation and advisory commissions today. The committee will meet | Jan. 11 and eliminate all sites which are 1 deemed unsatisfactory for the location of the new institution. The committee will meet with Governor Warren T. MaCray, who is president of the commission, to discuss the plan for inspecting the slties which are held large enough, have enough water and those which are near railroads and other means of transportation. It is planned to have the 165 proposes sites which have been presented to the commission reduced to not more than twenty-five oy thirty, and aq examination will be made of these places. Many of the sites proposed to the commission are not large enough and many have not enough water on to supply the Institution’s needs.
