ATHENS, Jan. 5 Fifty sailors •were killed and twenty Injured by an explosion on the Greek destroyer Leon, In the Piraeus harbor today. Two other warships which were alongside the Leon were damaged. The Leon was launched in 1911, but afterward rebuilt. She Is 293 feet long and 288 feet In the beam, displacing 1,000 tons. She is equipped with four 4-inch guns, one 6-pounder and four 18inch torpedo tubes. SCOTTISH RITE WILL INITIATE Announces Plans for Spring Class. Announcements have been sent out by the Scottish Rite giving a schedule for conferring the degrees on a spring city class, for which petitions are now being received by Robert G. McClure, secretary, at the temple in South Pennsylvania street. The ceremonies will begin Wednesday March 22, when the grades will be completed. The evening of March 1 has been designated for the class banquet at which there will be addresses, music by the new Scottish Rite orchestra and other entertainment features. Petitions for the city class will be received until Wednesday evening, Jan. 18. Additional notice Is given that the fiftyseventh annual reunion and convocation will be held on March 28, 29, 30 and 31. This always attracts visitors from all ; parts of the State and a number of new features have been planned for the r'tu- i allelic work. Edward J. Scoonover, thrice potent master, has named a reception committee, with Guy K. Jeffries, chairman, and Leroy Mansfield and Orlando D. Haskett, vice-chairman.

NEW ARBUCKLE MURDER TRIAL OPENS MONDAY Film Comedian Will Face Court Again on Rappe Murder Charge. SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. s.—Hoseoe “Fatty” Arbuckle, famous film comedian, is expected to arrive here tomorrow or Saturday to be In readiness for his second trial for manslaughter as a result of the death of Virginia -Rappe, Is scheduled to open Monday In Superior Court. It appears probable the 'start of the trial will be postponed a week. It was learned there will be a few new witnesses at the forthcoming trial and some of the witnesses at the first trial will not testify. The case of Mrs. Minnie Neighbours charged with perjury as an outgrowth ! of her testimony In favor of Arbuckle at the first trial, came up again before Police Judge Jacks. Several witnesses remnin to be heard and the possibility ! exists that failure to complete this case j will provide the basis for a delay In the Arbuckle case. Olds was arrested j Thanksgiving night, when, according to testimony, he was traveling north on College avenue at a rate of thirty-four miles an hour. Booze Fraud Exposures" in Number of States Will Follow N. Y. Indictments

WASHINGTON, Jan. B.—Booze frauds In a number of States growing out or theft and forgery of Government whisky permits are to be exposed by evidence now before grand Juries, it became known today,. following indictment of alleged principals In New Yctrk’s SIO,OOO,DUO liquor withdrawal conspiracy. New reports on frauds, similar to those in New York were made to the Internal Revenue Bureau. These reports, It was understood, will supplement others reflecting the operations of bootleg rings in conspiracy with prominent politicians and dry law officials in Maryland, Pennsylvala, Kentucky, Ohio and other States. ** Commissioner Haynes was astounded by the revelations of revenue agents. They show extensive thefts of blank permit forms upon which bootleggers or their representatives have written in any desired numbers fancy has dictated to suit their requirements for liquor. According to the charges, permits calling for the removal of $10,000,000 worth of whisky from bonded warehouses were Illegally obtained from Director Hart’s office during the first week of last August. During the same month, according to Government agents, 400 more permits were obtained from the director’s office by means of which $30,000,000 worth of liquor could have been obtained.
