NEW YORK, Dec. 22.—A murder rivaling the Ruth Cruger case has been brought to light today with discovery of the body of Gilbert Beln, 5, in a tuo in the cellar of his father’s tailor shop on the east aide. The child's skull had been crushed with blows from a club. Police are searching for a dark, tall youth with whom. Max Beln, the father, says his little boy was playing just before he was killed. The slayer is believed to have placed the child in the tub and then struck him with the club, afterward placing the lid on the tub and calmly walking out right past his victim’s father. BEGINS PROBE OF GUN REIGN Attorney General Will Look Into Ardmore Reports of Outlawry. ARDMORE. Okla., Dec. 22.—The “reign of the six-shooter'’ which residents declared exists in Ardmore, was investigated by Attorney General S. P. Freeling. Freeling arrived here to take charge of a probe into complaint made by Ardmore citizens that county authorities were lax in law enforcement and that outlawry was rampant. An investigation also will be made into the triple murder at Wilson, Okla, a week ago, wherein Joe Carroll an alleged bootlegger, and two alleged members of a masked band were the victims. The preliminary trial of the Rev. Leon Julius, Baptist minister of Wilson, and J. A. Gilliam, charged with murder in connection with the Wilson killing, was scheduled to open in justice court here this afternoon. Eleven other men, also charged with the murder, will waive preliminary examination. John McCammon, 75, Dies in Greenwood Special to The Times. GREENWOOD, Ind.. Dec. 22.—John MeCamrjon, 75, Civil War veteran, died at hie home here yesterday afternoon. Mr. McCammon suffered a stroke of paralysis about a year ago and has been confined to his bed for the past nine months. He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Sarah UcCammon: three sons, Ed, Charlie and George McCammon, all of Indianapolis, and a daughter, Mrs. F.oea Todd of Greenwood. Funeral services will be held at the family residence at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon. Burial will take place at the Greenwood Cemetery. Daylight Bandits Make Haul of $8,500 CHICAGO, Dec. 22. —Auto bandits made two daylight raids on stores he*e today and escaped with $5,000 in Jewelry and $3,500 worth of furs. Sam Diamond, proprietor of the fur store, was locked in • washroom while the store was looted. Frank Lorenz, jeweler, was locked In the rear of his store. Two Bandits Shot CASPER, Wyo., Dec. 22.—The bodies of Berry Gordon and Earl Pike, two bandits, are in the morgue here today. The men were shot in a fight with officers last night when interrupted in the robbery of a grocery. Gordon was wanted by Wyoming officers sci several robberies.

Girl Sleeps 53 Days, Puzzle for Physicians MOLINE, 111., Dec. 22.—Physicians of Moline, Davenport and Rock Island are puzzled by tb* strange malady that has kept Miss Eleanor Settle in a state of "suspended animation” for fifty-three days. AU efforts to arouse her have been futile and it is necessary to feed her by artificial means. Miss Settle has recognized no one since she passed Into the state of anaesthesia. The only word she has spoken is "Mama,” which 6he repeats constantly. More than one hundred experiments have been made by physicians in an effort to awaken her, but without success. MOREMURDER CHARGES FILED Killing Near Texas Masked Order Hall Unsolved. AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 22.—Four more complaints charging murder in connection with the shooting to death e* Peeler Clayton near the alleged meeting place of a masked order were filed here today. The complaints filed by Pol. 'e Sergeant Nitchje in Justice court were against W. E. Mayberry, custodian of Camp Mabry and member of the State Ranger force; E. L. Young, chief of city detectives; J. L. McNeil, police patrolman, and Bassett Miles, Federal prohibition officer. WILT. SHIMMY HOME. TRACE MURDER TO GATE DELAY Authorities Say Flagman Killed by Men Who Rode in Taxicab. MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 22.—What police say Is the solution of the murder of Lawrence Hogan, Milwaukee railroad flagman, found dead in his lookout station Wednesday with his body riddled with bullets, was offered the police today, when William Borneth, taxicab driver, told a story which led to the arrest of two men and a woman. The trio are held without charge. One of the men, George Gibbs, is alleged to have confessed that he and another man fired the shots while under the influence of “moonshine.” The taxi driVer said - the two men in hts car became angered because the flagman delayed the car by not lifting the gate promptly. After proceeding two blocks, he said, the two men ordered him to stop and announced their intention of “attending to” the flagman. They left the car, but returned after a few minutes.
