RESISTS BEING HELD UP, SHOT THROUGH HAND Victim Says Attacking Negro Crept Up Behind Him in Street. MAN ROUTS BURGLAR One man was shot through the finger by a negro hold-up man and a negro burglar was forced to flee from a home after being shot at last night. Charles Yocum, 26 South Capitol avenue, was shot through the right index finger at 5 a. m. today as he struggled with a negro hold-up man at Harding street and Kentucky avenue. l>e negro succeeded In taking sl2 in money and a watch valued at S2O and escaped. Yocum told the police the negro crept up behind him, pointed a gun at him and told him to hold up his hands. He Bald he turned and struggled with the negro and that the shot was fired during the struggle. VICTIM DESCRTBKS man who robbed him. Yocum described the negro as being six feet tall and weighing 170 pounds. He said the man wore a brown cap and a gray and brown striped suit. A negro burglar met with a hot reception when he paid a second visit to a North Alabama street residence and was shot at as he started to climb through a window. H. C. Meyers, the Worthington Apartments, 610 North Alabama street, was watching .'or the prowler and when the returned he fired one shot at him. The bullet went through the window and the negro fled. Miss Retha Merideth, who rooms at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Meyers, was awakened at 12:30 a. m. today by a negro who had raised the window of her room. The negro was holding a lighted match in his hand. She screamed and he ran. The lights were extinguished in the room and Mr. Myers took up the watch and

A daring hold-up took place northwest of the city when John E. Hasty, 29, a taxicab driver, 1614 West Michigan street was slugged and robbed of his machine and sll. Hasty answered a call at the Claypool Hotel, where he met two women and a man who ordered him to drive to the Casino Gardens, near Emrichsville. When the car reached that place one of the women got out saying she was going to meet a friend. The man ordered Hasty to drive him to some dark roau. Hasty drove west past the Motor Speedway ard when near the Trotter farm, the man told him to stop. Then he was ordered to drive slow. He had Just started the car again when he was struck on the head with a “blackjack.” Stunned, the taxi driver placed his hand on his head Just as a second blow was struck and the weapon hit his hand. Then the thug dragged him from the automobile. BANDIT MAKES DEMAND FOR MONEY. The bandit demanded Hasty’s money. The taxi driver replied that he bad none. The robber covered him with a revolver and raised the blackjack to strike tne helpless automobile driver who was lying on the ground. At that instant the young woman who was with him pleaded with him not to hit the prostrate man again. The robber then searched Hasty's pocket and took his money. The robber ordered Hasty to walk north. Then he drove the automobile south to the Crawfordsvllle pike and turned east, nasty called the police and after hours of search the police emergency squad had failed to find the bandit, his woman companion, or the woman who got out of the car at the Casino gardens. The missing automobile bore license No. 14839. The robber was a well-dressed man about 26 years old. He appeared to he six feet In height and weighed 200 pounds. Mrs. .Tames TV.
