BIDS FOR SCHOOL WORK RECEIVED Contract Awards Held Up by Lack of Quorum. Bids for a number of contracts of various kinds were received by the board of school commissioners at a special meeting Saturday afternoon. Because of the fact that there was no quorum, Clarance E. Crlppin and Charles L. Barry being the only members present, no business other than the opening of the bids was transacted. All bids will be taken up at the regular meeting Tuesday night. The Sanborn Electric Company with a hid of $5,583 was the lowest of four bidders for electrical work at the old shops and power house at Arsenal Technical High School. Haynes Brothers' bid of $6,201 for heating arrd Charles Fiel’s bid of $2,250 for plumbing were the lowest of nine bids for this work. There were only two bidders for bnUd-. ing sidewalks at School No. 22, Arlxona and Chestnut streets, the low bid being that of W. C. Halstead, $1,287. A. D. Stackhouse and Company was the only bidder on building a retaining wall and pipe fence at School No. SL Lincoln and Alabama streets, and for Improving the playground at School No. 22. The bid on the work at School No. 81 was $1,497, and at School No. 22, $3,451. Negro, Who Ran From Police, Offers Alibi A charge of carrying concealed weapons was continued indefinitely and a “blind tiger” charge against Barry Robinson, negro. was taken under advisement until Saturday in city court today by Judge Walter Pritchard after testimony that Robinson attempted to flee from the police at the time of hia arrest and that, when he was caught, a search revealed a loaded revolver, tea extra cartridges, a blackjack. a half-pint of “white mule” and aflashlight. Robinson declared he was deputised to take some prisoners to Jeffersonville, but his arrest Saturday prevented this. Sheriff Goorga Snider substantiated this. Judge Pritchard ordered the weapons confiscated.
