A meeting of the executive committee tonight will be the opening feature of the thirty-seventh annual meeting of the Indiana Academy of Science, at the Claypool Hotel. The program for tomorrow morning's session includes a business meeting followed by a general session, and for the afternoon the program includes a business meeting followed by sectional meetings. Tomorrow evening, from 6 to 8:30 o’clock the annual academy d’nner will be held in the Florentine room of the hotel, with Dean Stanley Coulter of Purdue University, presiding. The meeting will close with a general session at S p. m. in the assembly room. The officers are as follows: President, Howard E. Endera, West Lafayette; vice president, F. M. Andrews, Bloomington; secretary, W. N. Hess, Greeneastle; assistant secretary, H. F. Dietz, Indianapolis; press secretary, F. B. Wade, Indianapolis; treasurer, William M. Blanchard, Greeneastle; editor, J. F. Breeze, Muncle. POLICE HEADS ON STUDY TRIP Mayor-Elect Likes Methods Used in St. Louis. Men who will direct the police department In Indianapolis for the next four years under Mayor-elect Samuel Lewis Shank, left today for St. Louts, where they will atudy police methods. The party was led by Herman F. Klkhoffj appointee for chief of police, and included Ernest L. Kingston, appointee for chairman of tbe board of public safety; Cletus Weaver, appointee for one of the Inspectors of police, and Mike Glenn, appointee for captain of police Jn charge of traffic. The trip was suggested by Mr. Shank, who recently saw some features ir. the St. Louis policing system which he thought might be of Talue here. From St. Louis, Mr. RlkhofT, Mr. Weaver and Mr. Glenn expect to go to Chicago for study of the police system. Mr. Rikhoff then expects to go alone to Richmond, Va. He said he hSs been informed there are a number of police innovations worth looking over there. Wife, 17, Files Suit to Annul Marriage i Suit asking that the marriage of R. She claims that she and her husband eloped to Jeffersonville. on July 2, last, where they_ were married. It Is stated she was only 1 seventeen at the time of the marriage and was legally unable to enter Into a marriage agreement, as her parents had not consented. The Fletchers lived together only two weeks, It Is stated.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 1. —American participation in the proposed International effort to stabilize exchange, particularly with reference to violent fluctuations which accompany the payment of German reparations, is assured, whether or not | the Washington conference is extended | to Include economic and financial problems of Europe. Talbott Under $15,000 Bond Pending Appeal Following the sentence of five years In the Federal prison at Leavenworth, Kan., and a fine of SS,(XX) Imposed upon John W. Talbott, supreme president cf the Order of Owls, of South Bend, by Judge Albert B. Anderson in Federal Court yesterday, attorneys for Talbott filed notice of an appeal to the Circuit Court of Appeals at Chicago. Talbott was permitted to go on $15,000 bond pending the appeal. Talbott was found guilty by a Jury in Federal Court last week oi violation of the Mann white slave act. He was charged with having Induced Miss . Bagley of Topeka, Kan., to go from . Topeka to South Bend for Immoral purposes. JACKSON HEADS NEAR EAST RELIEF Secretary of State Accepts Chairmanship. The chairmanship of the Near East RoUef State committee which has been vacant since the death of John 11. Holliday, has been accepted by Ed Jackson, secretary of State of Indiana, who gives the organization heatty assurance that he will give all aid possible to the relief work in Russian Armenia and other Bible lands. Mr. Holliday had held the position of chairman of the committee for several years before his death. Associated with Mr. Jackson on the committee will be some of the most prominent men of the State. HAITIENS HOLD PROTEST MARCH Ask End of Martial Rule and Declare for Island’s Independence. TORT AU PRINCE, Haiti, Dec. I. There was a big patriotic demonstration here today when thousands of persons, carrying banners, marched to the statue of Dessalines, the "Haltien liberator,” In protest against military occupation of the island. • The demonstration was carried out under the auspices of the Society of Young Haiti. In addition to the members, thousands of citizens joined. Speakers asked the immediate abrogation of martial law and the restoration of absolute Haltien independence. They declared the treaty of 1915 was forced on the Haltiens by the United States and that It is illegal. Also they attacked the constitution of 1918 which they allege was Imposed by the United tSates. The Investigation of American military occupation by an American congressional committee continued today. CAMPBELL TAKEN TO FRISON. Leonard Campbell, who was arrested in Chicago and returned here for trial on eharges of embezzlement- and for issuing fraudulent checks, today was at the Indiana State F/ison serving a sentence of from one to five years. Campbell was sentenced In the Criminal Court on a charge of Issuing a fraudulent check. * was announced at the jail today that Campbell was taken to prison yesterday afternoon. He was sentenced on Nov. 18.
