LONDON, Oct. 26.—The Prince of Wales embarked from Portsmouth today la the Renown, upon a 25,000-mile voyage to India. King George and Queen Mary accompanied the heir to the British throne to Victoria Station. The Trince sailed at 3:30 this afterroon. His staff will be much the same as that which accompanied him to America, except that It will Include a dozen ruling ' Indian princes. Prom India the Prince will go to Japan and to Canada. The advisability of the Prince’s visit to India was debated in the House of Lords and on the very eve of the Prince'a departure open fears for his safety wer expressed. To all suggestions that an attempt might be made to assassinate him, the Prince smilingly replied he felt absolutely safe. An enormous crowd was gathered about i the railway station and they cheered wildly when the Prince arrived. Among the Prince's friends present was George Harvey. American ambassador. EXPERIENCE IS ON SHANK SIDE “I want to be mayor because I think I can be of service to you people, that’* all,” declared Samuel Lewis Shank, Re* publican nominee for mayor, in speeche* last evening. “I'm proud of my record as mayor of Indianapolis. I’m proud of my record as recorder of Marion County. I don't want to be mayor of Indianapolis because of the honor there is in it. I’ve had that honor before.” The candidate said he believed he is better fitted to run Indianapolis than Boyd M. Ralston, his Democratic opi ponenr, because of his previous experi--ence. Speaking of Mr. Ralston, Mr. Shank declared: "I've lived here all my life and I never heard of Ralston until he came out ia tli6 primaries. You never heard of Kali ston doing anything for anybody." Mr. Shank has been going about th® city for the past six weeks declaring Mr. Ralston is a poker player and that he knows he is because he has played with him. ‘The only difference between Ralston and me is that I stopped playing when I got married sixteen years ago and he's still at it,” Mr. Shank frequently has said. "The park board has spent enough money on parks. It is time to start spending money on playgrounds for th® ‘kids,’ ” said the candidate.
