METHODISTS OF STATE TO MEET HERE NOV. 8 Plan Evangelistic Effort to Reach Over Entire State. [fha Methodist Episcopalians of Indiana will gather here for a three-day convocation on Nov. 8, 9 and 10, it was announced today by Bishop F. D. Leete of the Indiana area. On the first day lay and ministerial dWegates to the State council will meet t* executive session. At this time matters of vital Interest to the development of the church life of the State will be provided. The hospitals, colleges, orphanages and Wesley foundations for religious instruction at the State universities will be represented before the council. On the second day all the ministers of tlj* Indiana, north Indiana and northwest Indiana conferences will meet with the council. This meeting will be observed as a retreat in preparation for a vigorous campaign of evangelistic effort throughout the entire State. (On the third day the ministers and members of the council will be joined by lay delegates, elected from every Methodist Episcopal church and chapel i% the State. WASHINGTON, Oct. 21.—Rum mlnalng across the Canadian border has been reduced 50 per cent, according to Collins M. Graves, dire ctor of prohibition enforcement In Vermont who conferred Thursday with R. A. Haynes, Federal prohibition commissioner. Some of the difficulties confronted by enforcement officers on the Canadian border were outlined by Mr. Graves as follows: “With 125 roads and by-ways to guard, and Canadian runners netting SSO a relay, the problem has been a difficult one to solve, and the improved situation is due chiefly to the cooperation of Canadian officials. “The most astute, cunning methods are employed by the runners. In many Instances attractively dressed women passengers in high powered automol lies, equipped with, gold bags and other fishlonable paraphernalia, are used for deceptive purposes In order to transport liquor across the border.” He discussed with Mr. Haynes plans for augmenting his forces.
