Good ventilation, formerly scarcely considered In factory construction, plays a large and important part In modern industry and In every large Industrial plant of today exhaust fans are sure to be fouDd. Efficiency experts long ago discovered that nothing does more to reduce production in a factory to a low level than poor ventilation. The human machine simply refuses to function at high speed under bad air. Fans also are used In plants as dust collectors, distributors of heat and many other purposes. “Few persons realize Just how many different types of fang must be turned out by a fan factory," J. B. Dill, president of the Indiana Fan Company, said. “We find after thirty-one years In business that we constantly are required to new fans to our Une for new purposes. We must turn out everything from a small dies fan to a mammoth blower fan and fans for multitudes of purposes. Hotels, factories, restaurants, department stores, heating plants, office buildings, business concerns, workshops all require special fans for their particular purposes. It is interesting to note that factories are waking up very rapidly to the necessity of removing dust thoroughly and quickly, thus avoiding fires and spontaneous combustion troubles. In Indianapolis alone there are approximately 600 dust removing Installations. “All kinds of power are used In driving fans. We have calls for fans that are electric driven, water d.ivcn or driven by belt from some central power plant. What is more, all the world seems to be using fans at present. We have shipped our product to about every place in the world, including England, South Africa, Australia and South America, and before the world war we shipped metal covered blower fans to manufacturing plants in Russia.” FURNACEDEMAND GROWS STEADILY Home Building Activity Creates Need for Heating Plants. Activity along home building lines in Indianapolis has resulted In an unusual and unexpectedly large demand for furnaces, according to Harry Rytolt, president of the Rybolt Heating Company. New homes require new heating plants and there has been an unusually large amount of home building going on In this city during the past summer. “Os course, not all new furnaces are put In now homes, for there have been many cases where remodeling work, postponed as long as possible when the abnormal high price level of the war period was In effect, has required that new and up to date heating apparatus be installed in old buildings. There also has been a great deal of furnace repair work done. “Probably the most Important factor In a successful heating plant Is proper Installation. This should be one of the very first things to receive the attention of the home builder, but unfortunately In too many Instances almost no attention Is paid to this very vital matter. Many a really fine, high grade furnace has been made Ineffective through poor installation work, and the home builder has “cussed out" the poor furnace and blamed all h!s troubles on it. “Reduction In the price of trw material and labor costs have brought about a substantial reduction In furnace costs over the costs of a year ago. This has been a boon to the business and there Is every indication that the business will Increase steadily for some time to come.” PLAN TO ASSIST LIVESTOCK MEN Companies Forming in West to Supply Funds. That “a number of Important finance companies are being organlaed throughout the country to assist in the financing of the livestock industry, with the cooperation of the War Finance Corporation,” Is set forth in a statement issued by Eugene Meyer, Jr., managing director of the War Finance Corporation, at Washington, D. C., through the Indiana organization. Continuing, the statement says: “During tny recent trip to the West I had the opportunity of meeting with representative bankers and livestock men in many States, and it was clearly apparent that new finance companies sre Immediately needed in connection with the llveI stock industry. Utah has responded to the need hy forming a company, with a subscribed capital of $500,000. to make livestock loans In Utah and Idaho. Wyoming also has formed a loan company with $300,000 paid up capital, and Is already doing business The War Finance Corporation loan of $215,000 an trounced this week was made through this eompanv. Western Nebraska bankers have orgnuized a $200,000 livestock loan company. “A telegram from Ft. Worth, Texas, announces that, at a meeting yesterday of representative business men of the State of Texas, It was decided to organize a company with large capital to make livestock loans. Subscriptions amounting to $750,000 were pledged at this meeting, and it Is hoped to receive total subscrip-

Frank Barrister, 1340 West Twenty-Third street, reported his Reo, license 211187, stolen from Sherman avenue and Edgemont street. James Briggs of Shelbyrllle parked his Ford, license $2527, at New York and Illiuols streets, but It disappeared while he was gone. Dr. G. B. Jackson, 603 Hume-Mansur building, reported his Oldsmoblle, license 62679, stolen from near St. Vincents Hospital. James W. Davidson of Lebanon said his Oldsmoblle, license 33-8176, was stolen from North and East streets. Harry Alfke, 1629 North Rural street, parked his Ford, license 303727, at Vermont and New Jersey streets, but the car disappeared.

Bradshaw, president of the Indianapolis Mortar and Fuel Company. “The betterment of general business conditions, slow as it is and the gradual easing off in money rates which Is bringing about a better credit situation, will be an Important factor in encouraging activity along construction Hues,” Mr. Bradshaw said. “Another factor that will be a big part In encouraging a resumption of work is the fact that materials have hit a rockbottom level. There will be a steady upturn In prices Just as soon as a real building boom starts and that Is the reason any one figuring on construction work will do well to begin as goon as possible. They fall to consider that a great part of the production cost of clay and stone products, such as brick, sewer tile, building tile, plaster, lime and cement Is due to factors entirely beyond the control of the manufacturer. In clay production, for example, coal Is a large Item of expense, and the high price of coal in itself will account to a great degree for the cost of brick tile, etc., anil explain why they can not be brought down to the old pre-war level.
