CHICAGO, Sept. 36.—Chicago building contractors ware reported today to have raised a fund of $3,000,000 to be expended in establishing the “open shop” la the building Industry here. Importation of nonunion men from other cities jls said to he contemplated by the contractors as a moTe to break the present strike of carpenters. X The carpenters’ union withdrew from arbitration proceedings conducted by Judge Landis and has refused to accept the wage award of $1 an hour established fcy Judge Landis as a basic wage for carpenters.
