NEWBERRY CASE ELECTION ISSUE Injected Into Senatorial Fight by New Mexico Democrats. WASHINGTON, D. C., Sept. 7.—Democratic leaders are testing the Newberry case as a campaign issue in the Now Mexico senatorial campaign, which closes with the election St. 20. To politicians this election is assuming national importance because it is expected to reveal the country’s reaction to the Harding administration. Senator Holm O. Bursum, Republican, is seeking election to fill the unexplred term of former Senator, now Secretary of the Interior Fall. Bursum was appointed by the Governor to serve until an election could be held. Bursum is a member of the Senate Elections Committee, the Republicans of which voted to seat Senator Newberry, Michigan. The Democrats contend Newberry is not entitled to his seat because his election cost too much. They are calling attention in New Mexico to the fact that Bursum's vote in committee aided in what the Democratic organization calls “the Newberry whitewash. - ’ If the Democrats beat Bursum they will feel encouraged to emphasize the Newberry case more and more iusistently, as the time near 9 for the congressional elections of 1922, party leaders here say. The Democrats have put Richard H. Hanna, former State Supreme Court Judge, in the field. FIRE AT ATLANTIC CITY.
