A reduction in export rates for grain from lake points to the Eastern seaboard was announced by local railroad officials today. Reductions in rates from the central territory, which includes Indianapoi.s. io the Eastern territory are expected to follow. The following statement has been issued by the Association of Railway Executives : “Following a two day meeting of traffi executives of the Eastern roads. R. N. Collier, vice chairman of the Eastern traffic executive committee, announced that a reduction of 5 cents per 100 pounds would be made by Eastern railroads in export rate for wheat, corn and rye from Buffalo. Erie and Fairport to Eastern exporting points. A reduction of S cents a 1(H) pounds in export rates on barley and oats was agreed upon at the sams time TANARUS! • reduction in wheat, corn and rye rates amounts to about 25 per cent. "Following are the present export rate* from lake points to New York; Wheat, 29.17 cents: corn and rye, 19.79 cents; oats. 19.a", eenls; barley. 20.08 cents a hundred pounds. The roads will preserve the usual port differential. “The adjustment of rates from central to eastern territory is to be given further consideration at i conference to be held at Chicago next week. It should be understood that the heavy reduction now made in grain export rates are not justified on the basis of the cost to transportation service. The composer has been turning over in his uiind the problem of whether he shall come to America. He told the "New York Nation” he did not think America could pay him enough. “America has no understanding of Europe." he said in an interview in Vienna. He will be here only a month, he says, if he comes at all. Guard Regiment in Field for Recruits Col George H. Healey, commander of the 152d Regiment, SSth Division, Indiana National Guard, today has opened a recruiting station at 102 South Illinois street. Capt. H. De Moss Galiher, who formerly served as an officer in the air service during the World War, will be in command at the recruiting station. Col. Healey was formerly commander of the 151st Infantry during the World War. It is the plan to obtain recruits for the regimental headquarters company up to 165. The battalion headquarters company needs forty-one and the rifle company sixty-five men. A number of men who have seen overseas service during the* recent war have enlisted but it is made plain that inexperienced men a well as veterans are wanted for the new guard regiment.
