Lewis Corey, (12, 1921 Bcllefontain* street, died last night at St. Vincent'* Hospital following an accident in which an automobile in which be was riding was strurk by an in-bound Ft. Harrison interurban at Emerson avenue and Thirty-Eighth street. Mrs. G. W. Dollarhide. 2934 Ruckle street, Corey's daughter, was driving th# auto when it stopped on the tracks in front of the approaching car. She was unable to start the engine and made a desperate effort to save her father, who was recovering from a serious illnea*. The other occupants of the automobile. Mrs. Corey and Mrs M. R. Vandiver#. 1921 Beilefontalne street, escaped, as did Mrs Dollarhide. Mr. Corey formerly was a Pennsylvania railroad detective. Ke was born in Jen* Dings County in 1553, coming to Indianapolis about forty years ago. Beside* his widow and daughter Mr. Corey 1* survived, by four children, RusseU R. Corey, llollie W. Chief of Police Jerry Kinney today announced that Detective Pat Roach would be given his badge and would go bark to work In the department tonight. H* will be assigned to night emergency duty with Dectective Fossati. The announcement that Roach's suspension was re-j voted followed the dismissal of the blind tiger charges against the detective by Judge Walter Pritchard la city court yesterday. Michael Ryan, attorney for Roach, made a motion in the discharge, pointing out that the search of Roach's home at 2218 North Kenwood avenue and seizure of beer was made Illegally. He stated the search warrant was filed the dav foil, tying the search and seizure, whirl, according to a recent Supreme Court ruling, is illegal. Admits Auto Thefts, Say Special to The Time*. RICHMOND, Ind.. July 20.—Full confession of all detail* of a aeries of automobile thefts which hare extended over the past eight months is said to have been made by Clarence E. Jefferis to Chief of Detectives Ed. McNally and Sheriff Carl Wadman, Tuesday. Jefferis is said to have joined church since the police reported his connection with various auto cases. Three of the four machines stolen have been recovered and returned to their owners. Jefferies was first suspected when he appeared at the police station to identify the car which was in the possession of Elmer P'ulton. who was sentenced recently to the State Reformatory. He then claimed the oar as his ovrn. lie drove to the police station in another machine. Small Boys in Toils on Charge of Theft Special to The Times. CHELBYVILLE. Ind.. July 20.—Following nn investigation of several weeks, officers have arrested Lloyd Howery, 15, and his brother William, 12. sons of Charles Howery of till? city, on a charge of deliffuency for having stolen three bicycles and ten chickens. Following their arrest the boys confessed the thefts of the articles, tha police *ay. The three bicycles and eight of the ten chickens were recovered and returned to their owners.
