HOSPITAL USE in fight URGED Association Takes Stand in War on White Plague. In resolution* adopted at Boston j meeting of the American Medical As soctatton In June and Just made public here through the Marlon County Tuberculosis Association, the council of health and public Instruction of the association takes a firm stand for the admission of tuberculous patients Into separate wards In general hospitals the country, at least for brief periods. Such patients may be so admitted without detriment to other patients and this would improve the general tuberculosis s conditions of the country materially, according to the statement of the council. The association goes on record in its resolution as recommending “that general hospitals of every character In all parts of the United States should provide separate rooms for the care of tuberculous patients, and that such patients be never denied admission, at least In emergency and for temporary periods, because of the character of the disease from which they are suffering." The resolutions point out that “there Is an unfortunate tendency la various parts of the country to exclude patients, even of tender years, with pulfaonary tuoerculosis from general hospitals, and that this tendency results chiefly from the Incomplete knowledge of an earlier period when the simple prophylactic measures were not thoroughly understood and when the danger of dissemination were greatly overestimated." Ths resolutions also point out that “the admission of tuberculosis patients to general hospitals for the temporary periods will tend to allay phthlsiphobia. Improve the home treatment of tuberculosis and popularize* home climates without In any way discounting the value and need of special tuberculosis sanatoria for patients suitable for and desiring treatment therein.’’
