Six new cases of Marion County prisoners who are asking for executive clemency are among those which will be taken up by the State board of pardons when it meets July 11. MANY THEFTS ARE REPORTED Robbers Busy in Various Parts of City—Hold-up Near Royalton. A series of petty robberies occupied the attention of the police last night and early today. Burglars broke a basement window from the Douglas & Holley Sandwich House, 100 East Ohio street, and took $5 from the cash register. L. C. Jacobs, 1028 North La Salle street, reported his home entered by burglars and that a 38-callber revolver was stolen. O. B. McCoy, Brightwood V. M. C. A., reported to the police that his watch was stolen from a washroom at the “Y.” Roy Floerke, 115 Douglass street, notified the police that a negro broke into the Kindergarten building at 11T Douglas street. Sallle Hayden, 1231 St. Teter street, told the police" that a man representing himse fas an employe of a laundry company called at her home and took sheets, towels, table cloths, and pillow slips to the laundry. She investigated and learned the man was not known at the laundry. R. H. Thompson, 415 North New Jersey street, parked his automoible in front of 639 Massachusetts avenue. Later he found that a thief had taken his coat. The Indianapolis detective department was notifled that four men in an automobile eomitteed a hold-up near Royalton, Ind., by holding-up an auto party and stealing the car. The organizatio of a Ralston Republican Club, composed of Republicans who are working for the election of B. M. Ralston, Democratic nominee for mayor, was announced today. WEATHER BAD REARING BASS Fish Hatcheries -Report Hot Months Reduced Baby Fish Half Million. The prolonged and unprecedented hot weather during the last of May and throughout practically the entire month of June played havoc with propagating and rearing baby bass in Indiana's four fish hatcheries, according to George N. Mannfeld, chief of tha fish and game division of the State conservation department. Asa result when the division anticipated making the largest plant since the State began fish culture in 1911, It will be impossible to plant more than 400,000 young bass this year, Munnfeld believes. PINNELL, TEASr BRIDEGROOM , IS DENIED LENIENCY Governor Declines to Intersere in State Farm Sentence of Kokomo Man. Clemency was dented by Governor Warren T. McCray yesterday afternoon to J. Viator Pinnell, Kokomo, who is serving a ninety-day sentence at the Indi'ana State farm for violation of the liquor laws in connection with the notorious “Belshazzar’s feast” at Kokomo some time ago. A delegation of Kokomo citizens, including two ministers, appeared before I the Governor, asking clemency for Pin- | nell. Governor McCray told them Piu--1 nell had ben convicted by a court of a 1 gross violation of. the law and that it would not be in line with his oath ot I office tp permit him to escape punishment. Pinnell staged at the Kokomo country I club just before his marriage some time I ago what has been termed one of the j "wildest parties” ever given In Indiana. LOAN HELD CITY ECONOMY BOOST Controller Says Borrowing Saves While Surplus Breeds Extravagance. It is cheaper for the city to borrow money on temporary loans in anticipation of taxes than to start the year off with a surplus big enough to carry the government through until tax money is received, in the opinion *of City Controller H. Bryson. The controller stated today that he is a firm believer in the effectiveness of the temporary loan as an influence toward economy in the various departments. The administration of Mayor Charles W. Jewett has had to operate upon temporary loans most of the time it has been in power, due in part to the fact that it faced a deficit in its first year through the loss of beween $300,000 and $400,000 liquor license revenue. Preparations to ask the city council to authorize a temporary loan of $300,000 with which to meet expenses of departments operating under the so-called “city general fund" from about the middle of August until the November tax money is received from the county treasurer are being made by Mr. Bryson.
