steel signs at a very low cost,” said Mr. Noblet. "We invite‘inquiries from every section of the State in reference to this matter,’’ he continued, "because we feel that every community should want its name placed at the main entrance roads so automobile tourists may know. A town slogau or motto may be added. In addition to towns.'we hope to have markers for all streams of any consequence, and for all historical spots as well. It will be up to the business interests of the various communities to finance these signs, of course, but our cost will be about half what would ordinarily be charged for such work.” It is stated the signs will be of heavy gunge steel, with the lettering drilled in. The finish will be black background with aluminized letters, and It is declared these signs remain legible, dny or night, even long after the paint is worn off. and inasmuch as they will be on steel standards set in concrete, they will be practically Indestructible. "This Is but another civic activity of the Hoosler State Automobile Associa tlon,” declared Manager Noblet. “We appeal to the home pride spirit of every little or big community to cooperate with us in this matter to the end that the ever increasing caravans of motor travelers will know what's what when they come to It. We make this appeal not from any idea of profit, because we are not organized for profit. The idea has won favorable commendation from all sources and we hope before long to
be erecting town markers all over the State. Incidentally, It might be said that the Hoosler State Automobile Association is needing the assistance of all motorists in the State-wide work that is being carried on. Motorists should quit harboring the idea that some beneficent providence paints the poles and the danger signs and looks after the motorists' welfare generally. Far from it—the money for this and all our other work comes solely from memberships. The automobile owner who is not a member is holding out on us, that’s all. We don’t want to insinuate that they are mooehers, but—well, they , should ‘get right.’ The larger our membership the more we can accomplish for the good of all.”
