DECLARES SHE BACKED ‘TEDDY’ Hillsdale Resident Files Suit Against Estate of Late President. Special to The Times. HILLSDALE, Ind., June 23 Mrs. Emma Richardson Burkett stated today that she has $09,900 coming from the estate of the late Theodore Roosevelt because she loaned the Colonel that amount to finance his 1912 campaign. Mrs. Burkett has filed suit in the East against the Roosevelt estate for recovery of the amount. She said a friend, Judge Peyton, now dead, brought her to Chicago and that she saw Roosevelt sign .the note, together with* a man named Charles J. Shunson. Mrs.. Burkett said she inherited the money and “invested" it with Roosevelt on the advice of Peyton.

RICHMOND, Ind., June 23.—Settlement of the building tie-up in Rich, mond is expected within the next two or three days, according to leaders in both the contractors’ and workers’ organizations. * An informal meeting Wednesday of representatives of the organizations made rapid progress in closing the breach, although the members did not have power to act for the organisations. Those interested in the movement state that a written contract will te drawn up. It is possible that a compromise between the old scale of wages' and that proposed by the contractors will be adopted.
Wayne County Taxes Near Million Dollars Special to the Times. RICHMOND, Ind., June 23.—The semiannual settlement of Wayno County from the collection of State, county and other taxes sbowg $965,424.72 ready for distribution to all units, according to a report of County Auditor Brooks, to the State auditor. Os the total amount collected $103.236.42 is turned over to the States, while $871,054.60 remains in the county. The interest on certain funds and docket fees make up the difference between the amount colleleted and the amount distributed. Fire Out in Glendora Mine; Men at Work Special to The Times. TERRE HAUTE, Ind., June 23.— Two hundred coal miners at the Glendora coal mine have returned to work, following a week's lay off, due to a raging fire at the bottom of the mine, which lasted for five days. The fire, which is believed to havs been started by a shot firer, was detected a week ago. A call sent in to the State mine rescue bureau, resulted ia the sending of a Federal mitte expert, together with a first aid team. The mine was se-aled up in four places when it wai found that no one was trapped therein. Daleville Man Killed When Struck by Train Soeclai to The Times, DALEVILLE. Ind., June 23.—While crossing the railroad tracks here late Wednesday, William Bush, 29, was struck by a Big Four train and killed instantly. He is survived by a widow and two children.
