FEW GATHERING IN CITY PARKS Trolley Travel Drops Off Considerably, Indicating Hundreds Forego Pleasure. A decrease of approximately 20 per cent in the travel over street ear lines to Fairview, Garfield, Brcokslde and Riverside Parks from that of last summer indicates that hundreds of working people are not going to the public breathing spaces this year, according to figures obtained from the Indianapolis Street Railway Company. The Sunday afternoon travel to parks has been one of the good sources of revenue for the street railway company heretofore, but It Is so light this season that practically no extra cars have been put on. James P. Tretton, superintendent of the compa: reported that not a single car has been added to the regular Fairview equipment this season and that inspectors tell him there has been hardly a fully-ioaded car making the trip clear to the park. In former years the company put on extra cars and still the crowds going to Fairview were so large that the overflow hung on steps and bumpers. The heaviest pqrk travel is to Riverside. On hot week-day nights and all day on Sundays and holidays this line has been one of the most profitable the cotapany has, but it Is bit Just ns hard a sthe others by the slump, Mr. Tretton said. Travel to Washington Park on Sundays when the Indians are home has been about normal, but It Is far off on week days, the superintendent reported.

PROPOSE FORUM ON AMENDMENT „ C. of C. Suggests State-Wide Discussion Into Legislative Changes. That open forums be held for the purpose of discussing the proposed amendments to the State constitution, to be voted on September 6, Is suggested In letters that are being sent to the secretaries of Chambers of Commerce In the larger cities of the State by B. R. Inman, manager of the Indiana Stale Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Inman points out in his letter that every citizen should be Informed on all of these amendments, particularly those affecting taxation, and that unless something is done to arouse public Interest the purpose of the special election will be largely lost. He explains that at the recant State conference on taxation, it was urged that similar conferences be held throughout the State, particularly in the larger cities, and that the State chamber was requested to assisted in arranging for these meetings. He suggests that these various chambers in the larger cities take the initiative In arranging for public, meetings in these various cities for the purpose of providing an oi>en forum for the discussion of these proposed amendments, with special attention to those dealing with taxation. He suggests further that the Rotary, Khvanis, the woman’s clubs and other civic organizations would doubtless cooperate, and that local talent could no doubt be secured to explain the various amendments to the voters.
