Bump Expert Passes Opinion on Battle After Photo Study Says Jack Is Champ Scrapper, but Gives Georges the Edge on Brains. CHICAGO, June 18—The bumps on Jack Dempsey's head and those on th# dome of Georges Carpentler indicate the big fight July 2 la going to be a surprise. No less an authority than Dr. J. M. . Fitzgerald, character analyst and psychologist, stepped right out today and upset the dope. Dr. Fitzgerald looked at the photographs of the two contenders and Tentured these statements; "If the scrap goes six rounds, Carpentler will either score a knockout, or fight Dempsey to a draw. "If it is a test of rav ability, the champion will retain his be It; if it lasts loug enough to give play t > generalship, hurrah for Georges. This ia what Dr. Fitzgenld read in the picture of Dempsey. ‘‘Dempsey s low frontal development of the head indicates a laci of benevolence and a high moral instinct. The buliie over the eyes, the square jaw and thy thick lips show power of penetrating, in stiuctlve anmal ltendencies. "Ah, but Georges. The Carpentler head, on the other hand, is symmetrical. It is one that would grace the professions. I gather that he Is a man of finer social adaptability aud that he is of domestic; temperament. He possesses all the graces and arts attributed to the French, and \ with them the fighting iustinct. ; "Jack is a natural fighter. A punch in thq face arouses all the animal Instincts in him, the same punch would stir Carpeutier to cunning, to reflection.”
Lay Off Knocking and Give Georges Chance, News Hounds Are Told
MANHASSET, L. 1., June 16—" Why don't you fellows lay off this boy, Carpentier?" said a ruddy-faced, corpulent sort of a gink, to a collection of news chroniclers as they hopped the old wagon for the Frenchman's training quarters Wednesday. “This bird Carpentler Is a wise John, and comes pretty nearly knowing what he ha# a right to do about keeping his stuff under cover. Lay- off him: be'* the guy what has to go in there and pull the big rumpus with Jack Dempsey, aud all you guys has to do is to grab the old hammer and whale the life out of the frog because he won’t step out Into the open and tip his mitt. "This fellow Carpentier blows in here in the real pink," continued the stout person. "Then when he is resting up trying to get rid of his sea legs and have his system absorb the weather conditions here, you plugs just square off and knock him bowlegged with a series of two-handed jolts from every direction. “Give the frog a chance. I don't thintr that he is going to walk In there ant beat up Dempsey, not by a long shot, but I'm for giving him everything that Is coming to him. For the love of green cheese, lay off needling him until he has a chance to show what he Is likely to do with our champion. “You just watch Carpentler from now on He has rid hiself of his sea legs and his system is well prepared,'too, for the elements. Watch him spurt in tha home stretch. I think that he has started on the last turn, and x that July 2 will see the Frenchman in the greatest <shapa of his life. “Jack Dempsey wtHyhave to be at his best to stop the flashy blonde. It won’t do for Dempsey to come in there as ha did against Bill Brennan. If Jack shows the same form be did against Brennan he will be knocked deader'n a mackerel.Georges can souk good and plenty, and if a half-baked Dempsey comes on day in July the championship will be* shifted to Europe.”
