QUIT WHEN PAID OFF TTAVTTOW, China, Jun* 10.—Mntinoui troops In Wuchanff, capital of the prorince of Hnpeh, were under arrest today after they had destroyed indch property, looted American property and killed scores of persons. The soldiers were quieted when 1,300 men were jrlven their back pay. First killing a number of their officers, the mutineers spread throughout the city, congregating In great numbers at the goxernment bank. Loose cash In the Institution was seized. The men then turned to the mint. The director in charge was seized and subjected to torture. 3a denied admission to the big vaults. Meanwhile seTeral thousand had scattered throughout the city, throwing ft am in g brands among fllmslly constructed dwellings. Hundreds of homes were destroyed. Residents were thrown Into a panic. Fire fighting apparatus was In default and for a time It: was feared more than half the city would be destroyed. The American Trinity School was visited by one mutinous band, which ransacked the buildings, carrying away everything of any Talue. The aoldiers finally were quieted when promises were circulated that their back pay would be made up. Fifty of the mutineers were arrssted when It was found they were carrying bars of gold and Bilver from the mint. They were taken to Ichang and held under arrest In barracks there, {tending sentence. The men were said to have been angered primarily by the government's new plan of disbanding surplus troops. $500,000 ALLOWED FOR EXPENSES Court Fixes Sum for Use of Dodge’s Widow. DETROIT. Mich, June 10.—Mrs. Anna Thompson Dodge, widow of Horce E. Dodge, the automobile manufacturer, asked for and was allowed $500,000 for one year's living expanses in Probate Court. Tbe award wnt made by Judge Edgar O. Dnurfee as the result of a petition filed by Mrs. Dodge. The petition declared that Mr. Dodge In the seven years preceding his death had spent more than $1,000,000 annually for the living costs of the family. Taere ere two children, Delphine Dodge Cromwell and Horace E. Dodge Jr. Mrs. Dodge told the court that she needed $40,000 a month for her own support and to help support the son and daughter. Judge Durfee allowed an even $300.000 for the year beginning Tuesday. Mr. Dodge died on Dec. 10 at his winter home in Florida. His brother, who was associated with him In the Dodge Bros. Company, bad died about a year earlier, and Horace E. Dodge at the time of his demise was tbe sole head of the Industry. Twenty years ago the Dodge brothers were journeymen machinists In Michigan.
