FERRET LAW SOON TO BE IN EFFECT Strict Observance of Measure Will Be Demanded. To a considerable extent the ferret is an outlaw in Indiana. The State went on record during the sessions of the last Legislature by the enactment of a lawprohibiting this vicious little animal being employed by unsportsmanlike persons for hunting small game through creation of a law making it compulsory to license animals harbored. This act empowered the State conservation commission to issue permits and charge a fee for regulating breeding and keeping ferret 8. Now comes the announcement of the conservation department that a fee of JlO will be charged for each cingle ferret and a further fee of $5 for each animal possessed by any person, firm w corporation in the State. The new regulation is a part of the law and has been signed by the Governor, members of the commission and director of the conservation department. It will become effective when the new acta are promulgated, about June 1. George N. Mannfeld, chief of the fish and game division, points out that owners of ferrets should procure applications for permits from his division, stating thereon the purpose for which the ani-

TELL OF NORMAL SCHOOL PROGRAM Hold Commencement Exercises Tuesday Evening. Commencement exercises of the graduating class of the Indianapolis City Normal School will be held at Odeon Hall Tuesday evening, June 7. Expect 5,000 at State Legion Convention Special to The Times. WABASH, Ind., May 30.—About 5,000 members of the American Legion and auxiliary are expected to attend the State convention which is to be held in this city, October 10 and 11, according to announcement made by James K. Yf.rnelle, comander of the local post. The meeting will be the second State meeting of the Legion. Col. L. K.. Gignliltat of Culver, State head of the organization will be in the city a day previous to the opening of the convention, to receive reports and take care of preliminaries. In the Federation are known, that .Tohn L. Lewis, head of the United Mine Workers of America, who has been boomed to succeed Gompers, Is “cut of the running,” and on denial by E. C. Davison, secretary-treasurer of th International Machinists’ Association, that his organization has pledged support to Lewis. Plea of Ireland Is Sent Through State Meetings will be held in many cities in northern Indiana this week in the interest of the campaign for the relief of soi'fering in Ireland and every efort will be made at the headquarters of the State committee to push the campaign, P. C. Reilly, chairman of the committee, said today. According to Mr. Reilly encouraging reports are being received from all county chairmen. R. W. Wells of New York, representing the national executive committee, will address a meeting In Logansport Monday night and a meeting in Lafayette on Thursday night. Miss Lucy McGee of Indianapolis who recently returned from Ireland, will talk before meetings at Batesville and Oldenburg. Many other meetings also will be hell.
