ANTI-AMERICAN ! SPIRIT IN JAPAN IS INCREASING Perm’ssion by Government of Hostile Speeches Is Dangerous. WISH ‘ANTI’ MINISTER TOKIO, May 27 —Considerable feeling is growing here that Japan should muzzle her anti-disarmament politicians who find their chief political success In attacks on the United States. It is pointed oui that the fact the Japanese government silently allows such leaders as Admiral Kito to address thousands of people renouncing America and Americans, permits fha engendering of anti-American feeling in Japan. The correspondent has known for several days of events tending to Indicate this anti-American feeling. It is also known these events have been suppressed at the request of the persons involved. ATTACK OX BOY GIVEY AS INSTANCE. One now generally known was the attack by a Japanese upon the 7-year-old son of C. R. Hawley. American consul at Nagoya. In this instance the Japanese entered the Hawley garden. Fortunately, the boy was not seriously injured. Two other such events, news of which has been withheld have occurred at isolated points. One of the cases in particular would be sufficient to cause action In an American community. The discussions of Sino-Japanese relations are being continued, the group headed by Torikichi Obata, minister to China, demanding action on their proposals to withdraw from Shantung. May 27.—The shipping board tanker Dannedaiae was sunk at her mooring in the Cramp Ship Building Tards in Philadelphia last night, according to a report made to the shipping board today. The report stated that the vessel apparently was maliciously sunk, a valve having been found propped open with a piece of steel. The vessel was allocated to the McAllister Company. CONTRACTORS RETURN $25.000 State Board of Accounts Finds La Porte Bridges Unsatisfactory. Special to The Times. LA rORTK, Ind. May 27—Three bridge contractors today returned approximately $25,000 to La Port* County because according to the findings of the State board of account's examiners they did not construct bridge* according to contract The return of the money—the largest so far since the shake-up in one county finances occurred—followed the visit of Jesse E. Eselibaeb, chairman of the State board of accounts. Tlio-e returning sums were Arthur VV. Taylor and Company, $16,040 90: H. A. Wilhelm, $0,608.43; and A. C. Stelgiey, $2,0*0.51. The “company" in the Taylor firm is Frank Conboy, city attorney, who made the settlement for firm. Conboy is law partner to I’hiio Q. Doran, couuty attorney. Repayment of the money followed charges by the State accountants that of fifty bridges in the county constructed in recent years only thirteen were built according to contract. AMERICA WILL TAKE PART IN SAVING AUSTRIA Col. Harvey Will Join Supreme Council Deliberations on ‘World Problem.’ WASHINGTON. May 27.—The United States has decided to take a hand in the settlement of the Austrian problem, It was learned authoritatively today. When the supreme council takes up tho question of rehabilltation- of the remnant of the old Austro-Hungarian empire, as it is expected to do, Coi. George Harvey will be instructed to be present and take part in the deliberations of the council. The attitude of the Harding Adminls tration, as outlined, is that the Austrian problem is a world problem instead of a League of Nations problem,, and being such tt is of Interest to the United Sta f es on both humanitarian and materialistic grounds. Advices received from American representatives abroad are that the economic plight of Austria is serfous and is rapidly becoming more desperate. American interest in the rehabilitation of Austria is further heightened, it was said in official quarters, by the fact, that the United State* is one of Austria's heaviest creditors. American claims growing out of the war and advances in money for relief purposes combine to make an Austrian debt of nearly $85,000,000. Officials declared there was no hope of getting this money paid unless Austria is assisted to her feet industrially and financially. . It appears that the Alltefl Supreme Council will meet at Boulogne June 3. Premier Briand will represent trance. It was expected that he would make a strong fight for an award giving Poland a generous slice of Upper Silesia. M’CRAY REQUESTS QUICK’S PAROLE Joins Others Asking Freedom for Hoosier. JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., May 27. The fact that Governor Hyde last Monday granted a parole to F. Harry Quick, sent to the penitentiary from St. Louis under sentence of five years in March, 1919, became public today. None of the circumstances surrounding Quick’s crime in St. Louis is revealed by the papers accompanying the parole. It was recommended by the board of pardons after Governor Hyde had asked that body for a report on Quick's case. The petitioners for Quick’s parole were Governor Warren T. McCray of Indiana, pud United States Senator Harry S. New, of that State, besides several bank presidents and other prominent citizens of Indianapolis. Quick was paroled to Owen J.
