Ind., May 27.—Cloverdale 1* now In the limelight as a possible location for the Indiana State Reformatory, which is to be removed from Jeffersonville to Putnam County. In a recent meeting. Cloverdale business men urged that steps be taken to influence the location of the reformatory in that Tielnity. Senator Duncan of Cloverdale and C. C. Hcestis of Braxil, members of the commission on location, viewed possible sites near Cloverdale Thursday. The favorable locations In that vicinity are said to be northwest and southwest of Cloverdale. The north site is on Limestone Creek, a small stream which is fed by seemingly unfailing springs. The south site is on Doe Creek. Neither site can furnish sufficient water for the reformatory unless reservoirs are constructed. A site has been suggested on Big Walnut creek near Stop 34 on the Terre Haute. Indianapolis & Eastern Railroad, and an adequate water supply could be furnished by Big Walnut Creek. Other Sites southwest of Greeneastle, and near Cloverdale, Fillmore, and Batnbridge, are being considered by the commission, it Is said. De Pauw alumni are continuing their fight against the possible location of the reformatory near Greeneastle. It is believed that the commission has abandoned the favored sites near Greeneastle. 2 Hoosier Concerns in Court Actions Special to The Times. SOUTH BEN'D, Ind., May 27.—Two automotive concerns in this section are in financial difficulties. The St. Joseph Superior Court Thursday authorized the sale of the Johnson Motpr Wheel Company of South Bend, as a result of failure to make a settlement satisfactory to the creditors. The company’s liabilities are about $200,000. the largest creditors being the South Bend Watch Company and the Fisk Rubber Company of Chicopee Falls, Mass. Assets. Including all physical holdings, are estimated at $406,000. In the Circuit Court at Goshen creditors of the Huffman Brothers Motor Company of Elkhart, a subsidiary to an Omaha concern, have asked the appointment of a receiver. The Huffman Company maun pictures trucks and pleasure ears. Leading creditors are The Marion ( Ind.) Malleable Iron Works, the Goshen Buggy Top Company, the Ligonier Auto Body Company and the L H. Gilmer Company of Pittsburgh. Slaps Him in Face With Potato Digger Robert Bryant. 72. negro, 2758 ManloTe avenue, slapped Daniel Lyles, 40. negro. 2974 James street, In the face with a potato digger, last night, it Is alleged. Lyles was sent to the city hospital for repairs, and Bryant was arrested on charges of assault and battery and carrying concealed weapons. The police alleged he had a revolver In his pocket when be was arrested. Bryant, it is said, objected to Lyles talking to Katie Porter, who lives at the Bryant home.

SAYS BERNATJER PLOTTED ESCAPE Jail Inmate Says Clever Plan Was Outlined. Special to The Time*. SHELBYVILLE, Ind., May C7.—The possibilities >f a successful escape from the Shelby County jail at almost any time were si own today by Charles Feahney, who escaped from the jail on April 13 by slid Jig through the coal shute and was Jeturned here from Lafayette where he was taken in charge by the police authorities. Feahney attributed the scheme that had been laid for an escape to Carl Bernauer of Indianapolis, who was sentenced, from here to the State priso*-. for life following his conviction on -i charge of murder. The authorities ate inclined to doubt Feahney’s explanation and believe the scheme is one of h.'j own. When Feahney was brought here from Lafayetle he pleaded not to be placed in the “bull pen” on the second floor, but Sheriff Rav Sexton refused his request. Later Feahney stated that he would disclose the secrets if he were taken to the first floor for a time. He was taken down and there showed the sheriff and his deputy where two chains had been sawed almost in two parts and that with the aid of a small steel toed the lock could be easily punched out. He then directed the officers to a loose stone in the floor Just outside the first floor “bull pen.” When this stone was removed a large rock was found and underneath this was a monkey-wrench. Feahney said he did not know from where the wrench came but that Bernauer had told him he meant to use it on the sheriff when the time came for him to escape from the JalL Feahney denied that he had Intended making the escape instead of Bernauer and accused Bernauer of the entire scheme. He was placed In the upper pen for the remainder of the tly.e he was here and was taken to prison today to serve a term of one to five years Imprisonment for passing worthless checks.
