Many Norway maple trees In Indianapolis are suffering from a disease sa strange no tree scientist has been able to definitely decide just what it is or just how to cope with it, according ta George E. Morgan, head of the special service of the city park department. There are some things which can b done to help save the shade speclments, however, and Mr. Morgan outlines them in a bulletin which he issued today as follows: "The special service, department public parks, has been receiving numerous calls of late relative to the Norway maple trees in the city. These trees for the most part are suffering from a physiological disease about whicßno specific data can be obtained. The symptoms are very characteristic In that in some instances the trees have thrown out very little if any foliage, in others only separate limbs dies, the barte of affected portions become loose almost immediately upon death. Thepresent remedy for above conditions Is to cultivate around tree, give light top dressing of sulphate of ammonia, or nitrate of soda. This procedure will tend to stimulate the tree* generally as it is conducive to luxuriant foliage and may be the medium for slightly affected specimens to overcome the trouble. Citizens isfegiug this or any other tree or shrubbery trouble are urged to consult the special service department. public parks, for free suggestions."
