A systematic Impaction of every street In the city to discover and take stepa to eliminate dead and dangerous trees vn to be started by the special service of the city park department today, George E. Morgan, head of the service announced. The cruaade Is expected to continue Into next winter, since Mr. Morgan estimates there are approximately 3.500 inch trees In the city. Division of th® city Into twenty-throe districts for tha campaign has been made by the special service. Inspection will start In the Irvington district. Mr. Morgan said the trees to be removed are particularly numerous In Irvington and the northwestern part of the city. Most of the trees which need to be removed for the public's safety are poplars, planted by real estate firms in new additions because they grow quickly. Hundreds of such trees have passed their beat days and are in such a condition that a high wind would blow them across streets o.- Into houses, the special service head stated. A comparatively low wind would tear limbs from many such trees, he added. In addition to trees that are standing, the department's campaign will include the eradication of tree stamps lef* *N-v the ground In violation of a „lty ordinance requiring such removals from the public lawn spaces so that the stump is cut at least six inches below the surface. When the inspectors find a tree or stump which should be removed on the public lawn space the special service will give the abutting property owner ten days' notice to remove them. Failure to comply will make the property owner subject to a city ordinance which provide* a fine of not less than $1 nor more than $25. In case dangerous trees are found on private premises, reports will be turned over to the board of public safety for action under Its power to eliminate such conditions. “The cooperation of citizens who will remove dead or dangerous trees without notice from the department will be greatly appreciated,” said Mr. Morgan. "It should not be necessary for us to Issue a single order because the property owners should have enough civic pride and regard for their own safety and that of their neighbors and others who use the streets and sidewalks to take action on their own Initiative.” Guard Baby’s Milk, Dr. Morgan Warns Guard the baby's milk supply after the dairyman leaves Jt on the porch in order that summer stomach and intestinal troubles may be avoided, warned Dr. Herman O. Dr. Morgan said, because the heat Increases the bacteria at an enormous rate. As soon as possible after the malkman comes the milk should be placed In the refrigerator. Dr. Morgan advised.
