Thu last State bank failure in Indiana was at Milton, in which the cashier was said to have taken some of the money and then committed suicide. This bank was closed temporarily and when the accounts w-ere checked there was no loss to depositors. Savings deposits In State, private trust companies and savings banks ip Indiana increased during the period of from June 3, 1920, to Dec. 30 of the same year, according to the saving deposit figures compiled by Camp. On June 30 there was $101,397,913.45 as compared with $123,508,239.87 on Dec. 29. “People have not been saving as much money so far this year as they did during the same period for last year,” said Mr. Camp. “I believe that this can be attributed to the fact that a large number of people are out of work. Last year when work was plentiful they saved; now that they are out of work they are withdrawing their savings as a means of support.” Pale Children Need Iron. Coal production In Indiana last year totaled 30,420,000 tons, according to Ellis Searles, editor of the United Mine Workers’ Journal. • This was an Increase of more than 10,000,000 tons over 1919 and was greater than the average production of the last four years. Throughout the United States, 556,563 tons of soft coal were mined in 1920, which Is greater than the average of the three preceding years. This year, however, the production will fall below this figure, because every coal field Is affected by the economic situation like that of Indiana, Searles said.
