CHURCH BODY JOINS CRUSADE Campaign of Education Against Public Spitting Given Indorsement. The church federation of Indianapolis today Indorsed the anti-spit crcsade being carried on under the direction of the Marion County Tuberculosis Association and civic organizations interested tn better health for the community. The Her. C. H. Winders, executive secretary of the church federation, notified the tuberculosis association that: “The Indianapolis Church Federation Is glad to Join you in your campaign of education against public spitting.’’ The letter continued : “One would suppose that by this time such a campaign would be unnecessary. It seems, however, that the attention of the public must constantly be called to the danger attending this unsanitary practice. We shall gladly do all we can to help you preach the doctrine of sanitation and cleanliness.” The Marion County Women’s Christian Temperance Union notified the Tuberculosis Association by mail today that it was actively in cooperation with the antispit crusade and would do all in Its power to assist in spreading information concerning the unsanitary practice of
The Truth About Indianapolis FURNITURE INDUSTRY SEVENTEEN furniture factories in Indianapolis, manufacturing sufficientvarieties to completely furnish a home, make products having an annual retail value of $15,000,000. Fourteen wood-working plants, two mattress factories and one jpring works compose the industry in Indianapolis. And the premier Hoosier cak is used in a large part of the products. Walnut and mahogany are also used in some of the types of furniture. Furniture for the sun parlor, the living room, finest of dining room and period bedroom products, over stuffed furniture and many other varieties compose the line. In addition, metal and wood furniture for the office, bank and schoolrooms are manufactured in Indianapolis. One hundred trains of thirty-five car3 each haul the'indianapolis-made furniture to the various markets. An Indianapolis fui*niture manufacturer more than a quarter of a century ago originated the bed arrangement for lounges, which has been adapted so widely for davenports and similar pieces of furniture. We stand ready and willing to do our part.” The Ladies Auxiliary to the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainman, Golden Rule Lodge 25, has notified the Tuberculosis Association that it is exerting its influence where ever possible in support of the anti-spit campaign. aCrds and posters setting out the possibiUtles of spreading disease through spitting have been posted in many down town stores and public buildings and elsewhere. At any meetings throughout the city this week speakers are urging the discontinuance of the habit and are pointing to the penalties In ordinances and other health regulations provided when promiscuous spitters are arrested by the police. SAT VICTIM TREATED ROBBER. Robert Gibson, 35, negro, 1144 North Senate avenue, was arrested last night on the charge of robbery. The police allege he held up and robbed John Williams, negro, at Senate avenue and Twelfth street, of S2O. Williams said he met Gibson and that he bought him an ice cream soda, and after leaving the drug store Gibson held him up and took his money.
