ment that a crop loss of $1,200,000,000 a year from noxious Insects could be prevented by Increasing the number of song birds. Birds to thrive In this section of the country, he says, must be furnished with some artificial means of shelter, the building of great cities and the denuding of the forests having deprived them of their natural nesting sites. If It'is desired to attract birds to the home food should bo kept in feeding stations in the fail, winter and spring. Warm water should be put out in cold weather and fresh, cool water In the summer. The food and water should always be placed in the same plaees, so the birds will become accustomed to seeking them there. It is possible, Mr. Dodson says, to keep Red Birds, Chickadees, Nlthatehes, Down and Hairy Woodpeckers, Brown Creepers and many other varieties of feathered beauties from migrating south In the winter by providing proper food, water and shelter. Many other Interesting things about birds will be told by Mr. Dodson.

Insists Upon 44-Hour Schedule Notices have been sent out from the headquarters of the International Typographical Union here, authorizing subordinate unions in all book and Job offices where the forty-four-hour week is not observed by May 1, unless existing agreements run beyond that date, to declare strikes. John W. Hays, International secretary, said he anticipates no trouble in Indianapolis, but he, expects tho demands to be fought by employers In other cities. Between 15,000 and 20,000 printers now are on strike, he said.
