Toughey Ramser Trios to Equal Famous Comeback Staged by George Chaney
George Chaney, knocked out by Johnny Kilbane in 1916. began a sensational comeback last fall and has knocked out nearly a dozen men in a row. Hoping to follow Chaney's example. Toughey Ram scr, a wildcat battler until Benny Leonard knocked him out a couple of years ago. has spent months getting ready for a similar comeback. Under the tu elage of Reddie Blanchard, Ramser is winding up a long training period at Battle Creek and this mouth plans to try his comeback. Ratnser rightly earned the sobriquet of "Toughey” when he began his career a few years ago in his home town of Lorain. Ohio. He took on all the hard hoys and his terrific punching powers and his willingness to bore in earned him fame. Then he grew' a hit too ambitious He sought and got. a match with Benny Leonard, lightweight champion We give Toughev credit. He gave Leonard and the fans a run for their money before Leonard knocked him out iu the seventh round. The K. O. was a tough blow mentaily as well as physically to Toughey. He lost heart. For a while he broke away from the game. But this winter he heard the call again. The aforementioned comeback of Chaney spurred Ramser on. So be hiked himself to Battle Creek for a long training period. Ratnser's manager Is an Interesting chap. He started out to become a fighter. The going was tuugh and seemed hop*less, se lie decided to become h manager. He's Just 21, but his youth doesn't bother him. He's a I.orain lad. too, and knew Toughey. When the battler denied to cotne hack, he arranged with Reduie to pilot him. KOKOMO TU B PLANS BOLTS. A boxing and wrestling show is to be staged Monday by tbe Rubber Athletic Club, an athletic organization composed of workmen at the plant of the Kokomo Rubber Works, at Kokomo.
